George H. Schmidt, 73, of New Providence, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 5, 2011 surrounded by his loving family at Hospice of Lancaster County, Mount Joy.

Born August 24, 1937 in Lancaster, he was the son of the late George H. and Mabel I. (Trimble) Schmidt. He was married to Cynthia J. (Dombach) Schmidt on October 19, 1963.

A Veteran of the Cuban Missile Crisis, George proudly served with the U.S. Navy. In his younger years, he worked as a Milkman for Turkey Hill Dairy. Afterwards he worked for R.R. Donnelly Printing Co. and for the past 11 years, George has worked for Sight and Sound Theatre, Lancaster.

In addition to his wife of over 47 years, he will be lovingly missed by a daughter, Wendy W. Witt of Harrisburg; a son, Scott A. Schmidt, fiance of Cheryl Zwolenik, of Lancaster and three grandsons, Zachary S. Michael of Red Lion, Joshua R. Michael of Vanzant,MO, Jeremy K. Michael of Harrisburg, and step-grandson Tyler of Lancaster.

Funeral Services will be held at the Andrew T. Scheid Funeral Home, 320 Blue Rock Road, Route 999, Millersville, PA on Saturday, July 9, 2011 at 11 AM. Interment will in the Laurel Hill Memorial Gardens, Columbia, PA with Military Honors accorded by the Red Rose Veterans Honor Guard and the Vet 21-Salute Honor Guard.
