George Edward Smith, 83, a resident of Oxford died Wednesday, October 20th at his home. He was a native of Granville County, the widower of Louise Curtis Smith and the son of the late George Adam and Gertrude Brown Smith. He was a member of Celebrations Church and retired from Yancey Chevrolet in Oxford. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 PM Thursday in the Eakes Funeral Chapel in Oxford by Rev. Ray Pearce. Burial will be in Knotts Grove Cemetery. Surviving are four daughters, Deborah S. Puckett of Durham, Karen S. Tingen of Oxford, Gail Smith-Grissom and Amy Smith, both of Henderson, seven grandchildren, three great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren. A grandson, Todd Puckett preceded him in death. Flowers accepted or memorials may be made to Community Care and Hospice, 1242 Dabney Drive, Henderson, NC 27536.  Visitation is 12:30-2:00 PM Thursday prior to the funeral service at the Eakes Funeral Home in Oxford and at other times at the home.
