His Life

My Dad

January 6, 2016

What can I say about my dad?  Dad is a great man.  I say "is"  because he is forever going to be in my heart.  Dad had a gentle soul and always made me smile.  I have some great memories of him.  Let's see... Dad had taken me to the fish hatchery in Marion.  He told me not to get too close because I would fall in.  So,  what do I do? I get too close.  What happens? I fell in.  It was just my leg but OH MY GOSH!!! those fish were gonna eat me alive. Never tell a kid not to do something because chances are, they will do it. Another memory is driving down the road and dad saying something about the snow on the bank.  I said there are no banks out here.  Or when he said we were gonna eat at Long John Silvers.  My comment... I dont want to go to Long John Silvers..(dramatic pause).. Seafood Shoppe.  One of my favorites was driving  thru Chilhowie and getting pulled over.  The cop told dad he got him for speeding.  Dad denied it.  Being me I said "Yes you were dad,  I saw the speedometer".  I got "the look".  Oops... I just got daddy in trouble.  Another I just remembered was dad trying to catch a mouse at mamaws and he was on his hands and knees looking for it and it ran up his pants leg.  We laughed really good about that.

Dad loved his kids and grandkids.  There never was a time that we questioned that.  He would get down with the grandkids and play just like a kid would.  He loved telling people about his 4 grandchildren. He was so proud to be called Papaw.  Dad had a love for life. He enjoyed every day.

My dad will always be in my heart.
