My Dad, the Smartest Man I Know

December 20, 2019
Wow, so amazing to know what you come from. My Dad only had achieved a 3rd grade classroom education, however he was the Smartest Man I know. I've been in the present of individuals with titles so long it takes up a couple of paragraphs to list all of their formal education. My father like many of his generation especially those anointed with faith from their parents and surrounding communities learned early to think on their feet and figure out what they needed to do to take care of themselves and their family. The adults in their life had serious daily life and death issues to deal with and didn't have the luxury of coddling their offspring.

My father as the eldest took his responsibility seriously as his siblings will tell you. I didn't know until late in life just how much of a sense of humor he had. It just makes my heart jump with joy to see him laugh and joke. As I view a lot of his photos he has a stern look. But he had such a love of family and wanting to see everyone do well, when that wasn't the case you could see the pain in his eyes.

I miss him everyday, but grow strong in making sure he and my mom are remembered for the remarkable, kind, loving parents they were. Actually let me correct that to are, as their legacy lives on in the many people they have touched.

Yes my Dad, the Smartest Man know! Made a way out nothing but his sheer determination to make it and supported and helped others along the way, never turning anyone away. Letting his offspring know "you can make it if you try, don't matter your starting point".

Thanks Daddy!

Strength. That is what you represented to me as a little girl.
Dependable. That is what you epitomized as my Mother's oldest brother.
Hard-working. Your legacy lives on in your grands, I see it in Shelley and Tamia.
E. 95th Place was the spot -- where I played with my buddy Vincent. God those Chicago vacations were the highlight of the summer! The country cousins coming to visit the city cousins ... there will never be anything like my memories that you afforded me and my family. Uncle George and Aunt Bea. An unbreakable bond, a love that was mightily tested only making its bearers MIGHTIER!
Love you Uncle George, Vonda

Grandpa Washington

I thank you for your wisdom. I thank you for your kindness. I am so very happy that Greg, Nyah, and I got to share our lives with such a loving man. Those we love remain with us. For love itself lives on. Cherished memories never die. For as long as there is memory, they will forever live in our heart. Rest In Peace.
