Gerald (Jerry) Monto died peacefully on October 1, 2016, "just six days’ shy of his eighty first birthday." He fought a four year battle against cancer ending at the Tidewell Hospice House in Port Charlotte, Florida.
Jerry was born in Plattsburgh, New York to Mildred and Francis Monto. He married Patricia (Forcier) in November , 1959. The couple had three children. The loss of their middle child to illness at the age of three was devastating. The family moved to Newark, New York in 1969. Jerry worked for the New York State Department of Transportation as an Employee Safety Engineer. His spare time was filled with rental properties, hydroponic farming, and hunting with his dogs.
Pat and Jerry adopted Raquel (Cruz) Bishara into their family in 1993. Upon their retirement, they returned to their beloved Adirondack Mountains. Jerry loved to hunt and fish; he kept mules for riding and packing into the forever wild areas. He enjoyed participating in the local political party. Jerry took great pleasure sharing these hobbies with his children and grandchildren.
Gerald is survived by his wife, Patricia. Also surviving are his son, Michael Monto of Newport News, Virginia, his daughters and their husbands: Michelle (Orrin) Marcano of Cassville, Missouri, and Raquel (Andrew) Bishara, of Sugarland, Texas. He has four grandchildren: Abigail, Nathan, Melanie, and Natalie. He is also survived by his sister and brother: Joan Blanchard of Venice, Florida, and Glen Monto of West Chazy, New York.
A funeral mass was held October 4, 2016 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Punta Gorda, Florida. Burial will take place at Saint Alexander Cemetery in Morrisonville, New York next summer.
