To the entire Coakley Family (or is it large enough now to call it a Clan?),
First of all, I am sorry beyond words to hear about the passing of Geraldine, the matriarch of a fantastic family I grew up with in Northboro. I spent many happy times in the Coakley household. Your whole family had a great influence on me growing up in Northboro, but none more than Geraldine and the tremendous respect that she showed a long haired, beer drinking and more than slightly irreverent friend of Dan’s who showed up at all hours of the day and night! She seemed to bridge that gap between parent and friend while still commanding the respect that she deserved. She made me feel like an immediate part of her family, always greeting me with that smile and that addictive laughter.

She was also not above letting you know when you stepped out of line, which perhaps happened more frequently than it should have… Dan, Brad and I gave her a run for her money in high school and college, but she never gave up on us and always encouraged us to live up to the potential that she saw in us. Looking back on those years, I am sorry that all of our parents suffered so many late nights due to our antics.

Adding Donald to C+P Painting Company (even then Dan wanted to be the CEO!) was a great experience as well, since he went from just being a younger brother to being a good friend. You spend a lot of time talking when you are up on the scaffold, and I don’t think there was any topic left uncovered after several summers as a painting crew. And Dottie just shook her head, smiled, and tried to understand what this motley group of boys was all about and why we behaved the way we did and tried to cover for us when we got in trouble. And when Shirley entered the picture, Mrs. C couldn’t have ben more proud of the addition to her growing family and it brought a lot of happiness to my buddy Dan.

Dan wrote, “My brother, sister and I won the lotto when we were born to Geraldine Coakley. Her guidance, love and passion are with me forever.” I would not disagree with that statement at all, but I would amend it slightly. Geraldine also won the Lotto when she had you three as children. Nobody I know has taken better care of their mother as the three of you have over the years. She was paid back in spades for all the time and effort she put into raising such a fine family. I know she was proud of all of you.

I know that Geraldine’s children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, family and friends have been influenced by spending time with her. Remember the gentle nature and open heart of this woman, her laugh and her love of each of your achievements as if it were her own (for in many ways it was). One only had to walk into her house to feel the kindness and warmth and feel her focus on you with genuine concern.

Thanks for sharing your mom with all of us….. Love
Rosie

I had the pleasure of working with Gerry ( her nickname back then was Sam) at Ingersoll Rand and we had a wonderful time together every day! She always had a quick reply and could make you laugh ... and she was great at giving out sage advise ... so sad to hear of her passing but remember her so fondly and the pride she had in her three children. I’m sure she’s looking down with that pride now that her job is done.

Geraldine - a beautiful, wise, and warm mother and grandmother. Peace be with you.

Geraldine Coakley please…these were the first words Don would say when Geraldine and Don would have their daily conversations. I thought it was so corny! God I wish I could hear them again…Geraldine was the heartbeat of our family. Your dedication to us was beyond. Our happiness was your priority. We have so so many wonderful memories. A trooper till the end. WIT lax memories are my fave! Geraldine was part of so many tailgates that she became part of all the families. Some games were beyond cold but she stayed on the field to watch her grandsons play. And Gran was never without her cooler filled with meats and drinks! I treasure our Florida trips we would take every year…secrets we shared over bottles of wine! I have been blessed with a mother in law beyond! You will live forever in my heart…I will see you in the prettiest of shells and feel you in the warm sand of the beach. I love you. Lisa

Truly an amazing person and grandmother. Gran, you always supported us, whether that was on the field, in the classroom, or in our professional lives. You touched countless hearts, and always worried about the person next to you instead of yourself. I will always cherish the memories we shared. Love you Gran.

“Don’t cry because it’s over, smile because it happened.” – Dr. Seuss
You may be gone from my sight but you are never gone from my heart. The matriarch of our family who was always in my corner, you were my biggest fan. Your strength and perseverance in life was nothing short of astonishing, it was your love in all of us that built the family foundation we have today. Incredibly blessed. I love you and I thank you.

Geraldine you were here for me in so many ways through out my life. I learned so many things from you that I will always take with me. You were my mother in law , you were my friend…You were always there for the boys growing up , going to games and being their biggest fan. I have countless memories that I will cherish forever .

The kindest, sweetest, and most caring person I could ask for in a grandmother. Gran was consistently more worried about the person next to her than herself.

Gran, you were loved by so many, and you will be forever missed by everyone you came in touch with. You shaped our lives, and you were there for each and every special moment, and I could not be more thankful to have you as a grandmother to my brothers and me but also as a mother to my father.

We all love you.

To the Coakley family, I want to express my sincere sadness at this time.
Mrs Coakley was such an amazing person who was like a 2nd mother to me, and always treated me that way… with respect, honesty & love. Love sometimes meant what I needed to hear, not necessarily what I wanted to hear.
Being around her were special times…she was sweet, funny & engaging.
Dotty Dan & Don, thank you for sharing your mom with me…I will miss her

Mrs Coakley God bless you and Rest In Peace❤️❤️❤️

When tomorrow starts without me
And I’m not here to see. If the sun should rise and find your eyes All filled with tears for me. I wish you wouldn’t cry. The Way we did today. While thinking of the many things, We did not get to say.
I know how much you love me, As much as I love you. Each time that you think of me, I know you will miss me too. When tomorrow starts with out me, Please try to understand. That an angel came and called my name And took me by the hand. The angel said my place was ready, In heaven far above, And That I would have to leave behind
All those I Dearly Love. Do not think we’re apart,
For every time you think of me, Remember I’m right here in your heart - David M Romano

To the greatest soul for which we owe so much, to the strongest woman we do our best to emulate. To the matriarch who shaped our lives, you will forever be in our hearts.

Love you Gran!

We’re all very fortunate to have a grandmother who set a precedent with her character, attitude and joy for life which was passed down to her children and live on in her grand and great grandchildren. Gran is gone but will never be forgotten. We love you
