I interacted with Gerry only in passing, in the late 1990s, but I have not forgotten it. I was a consultant in Morocco, on a Washington-based team learning about the Mission's economic growth program. It was one of my first trips on a USAID assignment. Gerry and Barbara were most gracious in inviting me to their beautiful home for dinner. Afterward there was a reception (on another matter, not for little-old me) that included cabinet ministers, ambassadors, etc. But I did not have a sport jacket with me, and this would have looked odd in that setting. Gerry readily offered me one of his jackets, and all was well. He completely made me feel at home, and set an example for how to welcome the passerby guest. All blessings to Gerry's loved ones.
