OUR ALASKA ADVENTURE
My dad and his life long best friend and his family and our family planned a trip thru the poppulated and unpopulated backwoods of Alaska. I remember all the weeks and months prior to the big trip. Now that Im older I must stop and say good job on the planning and the well thought out schedule . I remember the stocking of the trailer with food and emergency supplys . I remember when the big day came and it was time to go .Mom was rushing around like a chicken with it head off and dad was already in the car ready honking horn yelling "come on lets go already " and of course I needed to go to the bathroom 5 minutes after we left that morning at 4 30 am. My dad said hold it till the first rest stop and I did but little did I know what a fun long sometimes cramped quarters and numerous ferry rides and glasiers and bear I would live over the next few months but would give me a lifetime of great memories and smiles. I wouldnt trade that vacation for anything in this world. Mr.Finney and his lovely family were the best camp to go on these type of adventures and as funny as it might sound we had the matching trilers wagons bike racks and boats but Mr Finney was better at parking and backing up in Alaska. He was very forgiving when my dad got him stuck by telling him to back up more and telling him he had plenty of clearence. oooops!!! Thank goodness there family has a good sense of humor .The Finneys have always been good people to our family and actually was with my dad when he died. He walked my dad out when the people came to pick my dad up after he died. It was truely touching to see such a true act of pure friendship. With him to the end and I am so grateful for all they did to help all of us through that.
