I have known Aunt Gertie for about 10 yrs. The first time I met her she smacked me with her cane while sitting in her chair for getting in front of the Television. I've loved her ever since. She was so sweet and loved a good hug. She was always smiling. I will miss her very much.

Aunt Gertie was the oldest sister in the Nettles Family. Her mother passed away when she was a young lady. She cared for her younger sibblings, especially the two youngest Mary Ethel (4 at the time) and James Hubert (2 at the time). She spent her life caring for others and sharing stories of the Nettles Family. We love her very much and miss her smiling eyes.

Gertie was my 2nd mother. She lived with my parents and I for several years and had to put up with me alot, which was no easy task. As stubborn as I was I never got anything but love, and the occasional switch from Gertie. I loved her like a mother and will miss her very much but I know that she is now with all those she missed so much,

I met Gertie over 45 years ago and loved from the minute I met her. She didn't suffer fools gladly but loved with all her heart and soul and I will miss her so. I also take comfort in knowing how happy she is to be reunited with her loved ones who have gone before her.

I, as one of Aunt Gertie's many neices and nephews was fortunate enough for her to be present in the very early moments/days of my life. I was even more fortunate to be with her in the last hours of hers. She was a strong, loving, happy, funny, sincere and Christian woman who loved her family and her life. She will be greatly missed; however, she is with her Heavenly family.

Aunt Gertie's House in Crockett

February 26, 2011

I remember going to Aunt Gertie's and Uncle Ted's house in Crockett. I spent the weekend with them on a few occassions.  They took me to Dairy Queen to get a chocolate covered ice cream cones.  I use to love to play on the spining metal clothes line in the yard.  They always had candy in the coffee table.

Aunt Gertie

February 25, 2011

I remember as a small child running over to Uncle Ted and Aunt Gerties house to play. Uncle Ted always had tinker toys or some gadget to play with. We would sit on the back porch and eat chocolate covered graham crackers (Aunt Gertie always had them). Bradley and I would climb up on the old leaning tree that was cut down years ago. I used to get in trouble for picking Aunt Gerties flowers. :-( I remember Aunt Gertie walking through the yard picking up sticks, tending to her flowerbeds and watering her plants. That is how I like to remember her. Any time I would walk in she'd offer a firm hug and a big kiss on the lips. She was a sweet lady, but she was tough. I loved playing with Aunt Gerties figurines in her bedroom and I enjoyed looking through her photographs. She will be missed deeply.
