Gertrude “Gert” Gandy died peacefully at home on March 20, 2022 in Cincinnati Ohio at the age of 74.
Gertrude Smith was born on November 22, 1947 in Cincinnati Ohio to Dennis and Annie Smith. She grew up as the baby girl of 12 siblings. In 1966, she graduated from Taft High School and married Donald Gandy that same year. The couple had 3 Daughters together.  It was important for Gert to teach them life skills early and prepare them for adulthood. Her children remember her as a Mother who was very tough and non tolerant, but most of all encouraged them to be strong and resilient like herself.  Gert worked for the University Hospital in the Food & Nutrition Services Department for 30 years until her retirement. She shared 16 of those years with her daughter, Monica who also worked in the same department.
She will be remembered for her straight forward and witty personality, her organizational skills, her love of dancing, her amazing music selection she played as she rode in her Chevy’s and being very adventurous. Most importantly, she will be remembered for the love she had for her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. It was important for her to create memories with them through fun experiences like traveling, social gatherings, shopping and going to the movies and Kings Island. She was always “out and about” and took her family with her everywhere she went. She has a lifetime of pictures she leaves behind as a reminder of those days. As she got older, she enjoyed playing solitaire, crossword puzzles and watching television. Her favorite shows being Westerns and Family Feud, but nothing compared to the Ellen DeGeneres show. Her family and friends knew not to call her when Ellen was on. She would not answer.
She is preceded in death by her parents: Dennis and Annie, Husband: Donald, Daughter: Monica, Grandson Kevin, Brothers: Henry, Joseph, Johnny, Jessie, Dennis, William, Tommy, Jackie, Sisters: Bessie, Ethel and Dorothy.  Gertrude is survived by her Brother: Raymond, her Daughters: Donna (Jerry) and Veronica. Grandchildren: Ashley, Markisha, Jessica, Melanie, Deanthony, Jamar, Jerome, Malik and Myles. Great Grandchildren: Daniyah, Danyea, Aneisha, Gabriel, Giovanni, Jesmonae, My’King, Divine, Sevyn, Jahzia, Markell and Jasiah, two sister-in-laws: Joyce Gaither, Marsha Thomas and a host of nephews, nieces and friends.
