To my loving sister Gertie who I will miss in so many ways and will especially miss talking on the phone and having a laugh about old times. When Vera and I were young Gertie looked after us when our Mother went to England. Her boys John and David were only babies at the time. Gertie and Christy had a shop and Vera and I had many happy times and lots of laughs with them, it's sad that we will never have these times again. When Gertie was young her friends were Teeny Grace, May Clark and Peggy Delaney, her favorite colour was Yellow and her favorite song was ' Autumn Leaves'. All her friends have gone before her. Gertie loved her bike and Gertie and Christy would cycle to Dollymount Strand in the Summer with their friends. She worked in Kennedys bakery in Dublin and every Friday Vera and I would wait to see what cakes she had for us. Always in my heart.
Your loving sister,
Joan, brother in law Joe and family.

After immigrating to the United States,Gertie lived in New York for over a decade before moving across the country to California. Gertie had an insatiable zest for life; she loved dancing, singing, and laughing. A loving sister, wife, mother, aunt, and grandmother; Gertie was preceded in death by her parents, ten siblings, her beloved sons John and David, and her loving husband Christy. She is survived by her sisters Joan and Vera, two sons Christopher and Joe, her daughter-in-law Cindy (David), Grandson David, Granddaughters Christine, Keirstin, Brittany, Lauren, and Courtney, Great-Grandchildren Kenley, Kellan, Callie, Jackson, Joey and Ally; as well as many nieces and nephews in the US and Europe. She was, and will always be loved and cherished by all who knew her.

"When Irish eyes are smiling, Sure, 'tis like the morn in Spring. In the lilt of Irish laughter You can hear the angels sing. When Irish hearts are happy, All the world seems bright and gay, And when Irish eyes are smiling, Sure, they steal your heart away"

Iam standing upon the seashore. A ship, at my side,
spreads her white sails to the moving breeze and starts
for the blue ocean. She is an object of beauty and strength.
I stand and watch her until, at length, she hangs like a speck
of white cloud just where the sea and sky come to mingle with each other.
Then, someone at my side says, "There, she is gone."
Gone where?
