Gertrude Oakley Satterwhite, 91 years of age, a longtime resident ofGranville County passed away Sunday, September 30, 2012 at Granville Medical Center.

Born March 24, 1921 in Person County to the late Fred and Frankie Clayton Oakley. She was the wife of the late James W. Satterwhite, a member of Providence Baptist Church, founding member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Providence Volunteer Fire Department. She was a Farmer, Mother, Grandmother and Great Grandmother. She loved gardening and took great pride in her flower gardens, always seemed to have a green thumb. She loved her church family, many friends and believed in working hard to provide for her family. She will be sorely missed by all.

Funeral Services will be held 2:00 PM, Wednesday, October 3, 2012 at the Eakes Funeral Chapel in Oxford by Dr. Randy Pittman. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Andy O’Brian, Amos Harris, Don Watkins, Randy Watkins, Wade Milton and Doug Wilkins.  Surviving are her four children, Marie S. Green, Linda S. Alligood (Ronald), Jimmy B. Satterwhite (Pat) all of Oxford, Ricky W. Satterwhite (Barbara) of the home at 4529 Shock Overton Road, Oxford, a sister, Lucille O. Adcock, (Edward), Fredrick Oakley (Betty), both of Berea. Mrs. Satterwhite also had six grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.

Visitation will be held at Eakes Funeral Home in Oxford 7:00 – 8:30 PM, Tuesday, October 2, 2012 and other times at the home.

Flowers are accepted or memorials may be made to Providence Baptist Church, c/o Rosa Overton, 3039 West Shady Grove Road, Oxford, NC 27565.
