I had a great life growing up and my dad had so much to do with it. We sat together as a family every night and had great dinner conversations. We got together all the time with family and friends and played cards. My dad taught me how to play pitch and we played that together for about 50 years. If fact we played it even when he was in the hospital and I remember impressing his cardiologist who probably thought he was way too old to be good at cards. But he was beating the pants off of us right up until he passed away.
I have so many great memories of my dad over the years. At 92 he was still a kid at heart. He loved to play softball with us, go bowling, take us sledding, and go to the movies. A new water park opened in Norfolk the summer he was 91. Of course, he wanted to see it and we had to talk him out of trying out the water slide.
I had a great childhood because of all the things he did with us. I couldn't have asked for anything more. I am so thankful that he was my dad.
