Up Dad! Every now and then, I give a cheer to you in my head. Truly you live on in our hearts.
I couldn't write or post anything yesterday because I can't see you as gone. Indeed, you are not.
Well you changed address 2 years ago. Recently, we played a game using Google pictures to guess all the old addresses where we shared great memories with you.
Alade Avenue, Ikeja
1 Point Road, Apapa
22 Point Road, Apapa
10 Bathurst Road, Apapa.

Many other fun places that mark our minds, with you at the centre:
Kakawa Street
Isolo
Apapa Club
Yoruba Tennis Club
Wesley Cathedral, Olowogbowo

Every moment and memory so dearly treasured, thank you for leaving so much goodness in all that came across you.

I was wondering if you would have supported a Tinubu presidency
I miss the bantering and arguments and counter arguments we would have had on the subject.
One thing for sure you would have said somewhere in the conversation is 'ma da awọn okuugbẹ yẹn lohun jo'.

So long Daddy GK, I'll pop in here again maybe on your birthday.

If I hadn't lived with Mr.George, I would have wrongly assumed that the testimonies about him were fictitious and collaboratively fabricated because they all sounded the same and too good to be true. Indeed, he is what they say he is: a man of the people, kind hearted, transparent, loving, caring, stress free, fun to be with, and a jolly good fellow. You will surely be missed.
Pa, George, God be with you till we meet again............

Tribute to a Jolly good fellow - Gilbert Kayode George
I and my wife, Franca moved into our residence in Apapa in November 1993, a year after our traditional marriage. Mr George was already living in the building, an official accommodation of the Nigerian Ports Authority with his family. No sooner we moved in than Mr George accepted me not just as a junior colleague and neighbour, but as a friend.
Soon after my wedding and the birth of my first son, Ifenna in 1994, his house became home for my little boy. After work every day, Mr George would stop over at my apartment which was just a flight of staircase beneath his, to see my little boy and play with him before he entered his apartment. He and his family showed us love and took us as theirs. He will remain fresh in our memories particularly as we continue to look at some photographs he took with Ifenna with nostalgia.
We sustained the relationship and visited him as we could after he retired from the services of the Nigerian Ports Authority and moved to his private residence.
We miss his free mind, smiles and friendship, and pray that God shows him mercy and eternal rest in his sleep.

MY TRIBUTE TO DADDY GEEKAY!

One of the most difficult tributes I've had to write.
How do you write the tribute about someone who you 'see' daily? So many beautiful memories of you.

In the words of Paul the apostle, 'I thank my God daily upon the remembrance of you'.

35 years ago taking my 1st flight to Maiduguri as a starry-eyed 12 year old, your comforting smile saw me off on that Nigeria Airways flight, seeing me off to the tarmac.

At my registry wedding,  due to the extraneous circumstances surrounding the events, I was going to just leave the registry with my wife and go home to rest. But, you had a surprise wedding reception  awaiting us at home! Such was your generosity.

You taught me liberality by your lifestyle. No one that came around you went back without you wiping their tears or giving them succor. Your hand never discriminated, even to perceived adversary.

Your private life of devotion was legendary! Though human as you were, you demonstrated to us your 'children' devotion and trust in God. Little wonder that you exited this world at the hour of prayer (6.00pm).

Your loyalty to family, friends and the Church marks my mind indelibly. Ololade (my wife) has the fondest memory of your care while she was in the house during her training in Lagos while I was in Port Harcourt. She was pregnant with our 1st child - Korede. Many nights you would come to the last bus stop to await her late arrival from work because of 'Lagos Traffic'. You stayed on the phone checking on her. Once you went all the way to Excellence Hotel (more than 10 bus stops from the house!) to wait for her at 11pm!

You kept things simple, straightforward and stress less. There was no one you couldn't get along with, you embraced everyone genuinely. Thank you for giving to the Lord, I am a blessed living witness.

I am doubly glad that your last moment was spent talking with your children, having your clergy at hand and listening to your favourite hymns.  I couldn't have wished for a better exit. You are finally and fully at rest now.

Rest on Daddy Geekay till we meet again on the resurrection morning. I do not mourn you but celebrate your beautiful life and endearing smile. Adieu

Love from Kolade, Korede, Lolade and Yinka Awoyemi.

Daddy Eko as we fondly called him was beyond an uncle, he was a father to us all.
A man with a heart of gold, he was extremely generous, he was caring and loving.

We are eternally grateful for all the memories that you left with us, we know that you rest with God now and we take comfort in that. Sleep on Daddy, sleep on Daddy Eko.

I have come to this page for several days to find words to write. On each occasion I have found it hard to write the words. Daddy George as we fondly used to call him was an amazing father to all of us as you have risen to go and sit at the right hand of the father all we can saying is we have all gained a guardian Angel to watch over all of us. May Your Soul Rest In Perfect Paradise. To the Entire George Family please accept our condolences through this time.

I honestly don't really know what to say.. Maybe I’ll start by saying words cannot express the void i feel in my heart knowing that i will not see you anymore. A great man has gone to be with the Lord.

Daddy G.K George was like a father to me, an amazing boss and a great friend. Forever his memories will be alive in my heart because he was part of my story. I became a member of the family in the late 1990s when I was introduced to Mama T. George by my wonderful friend, Yinka Awoyemi.

I remember how Daddy G.K George trusted me to run his business back then. A man of uncompromised integrity in both his profession and personal life. I remember how I spent more time in their home than I did in mine. There was never a dull moment around him. He was fun and loved by everyone. He thought me the importance of humility and financial generosity. He loves and respects his wife, he always said to me whenever we had to grab something to eat or drink after work that we should not eat much because Mummy already had delicious dinner prepared and you can’t say you’re full, you’ll have to eat it (lol).
“The memory of the righteous is blessed” (Prov 10:7a).

I know Christian don’t die but just change address, so till we meet again G.K George.

To dear Mama George, Olu, Wole and Tumi, you are blessed to have him as your father and the Lord will comfort you with the comfort of the Holy Spirit.

No matter how much we try to prepare ourselves for the dying of a loved one, you are never ever prepared and ready to accept it just as it is.

Daddy Olu was a classic man, a man like him is rare.  He was a very jovial man and in all my years I cannot recall him ever getting angry or raising his voice, even when you could sense his discomfort, he always managed to keep calm.

Daddy Olu was one cool man, he was a good dresser with a lot of panache, he walked into any room and you would know without a spoken word that a real person just stepped in.  In all of this, he was an incredibly humble man, he greeted everyone with a bow or his hands behind him.  One of my earliest memories would be going to Lagos Island to watch the Eyo Festival, he picked us all and drove us into the street itself, got down and walked us boldly into Mummy Eko’s house. Everyone knew who he was and stopped exchange pleasantries, including Eyo masquerades.  I was in total awe.

Daddy Olu was always there every Sunday like clockwork.  His greetings started from the gate until he got upstairs, the hailing did not stop and how can I not mention his one of a kind of greeting, the side hug and the pat on the back, it was his very own signature.

Daddy Olu loved God and was always involved in one church activity at Olowogbowo Methodist Church and I recall his joy during Tumi’s wedding, he said I am happy she got married in the family church.  He was a man who loved prayers, anytime prayer started, be sure to see him get up and take off his hat and bow his head.

Daddy Olu was a remarkable man, he was fun to be with, fun to talk with, all this he did with such quiet elegance and style.  He will be solely missed

I say to Mummy Olu, God would continue to uphold you as we would always celebrate this great man indeed.

Olu, Wole and Tumi- I know it is tough to say goodbye to a father, a worthy one like your Daddy was. I know that there is comfort released daily, I am experiencing this myself, but sha, can you just imagine what Frank and Gilbert are getting up to in heaven? I picture them singing with the heavenly choir, good thing now would be they would not be singing out of tune anymore (LOL)

Sleep on sir, you lived well! You will be greatly missed

Tribute to Our brother Gilbert Olukayode George

Our dear brother was truly a remarkable man, who truly loved life, enjoyed being a family man to the very end. Brother, as we fondly called him was gracious, sincere, kind, humble, very humorous but above all he was ever present. He was a solid rock for everyone, available for every occasion with a warm smile and numerous jokes to keep everyone relaxed, he was never ever tired of family.

We remember with much joy the Saturday trips to Ikorodu, the Sunday trips to Isolo with the family, travels and engagements to weddings of our children etc. You were even great friends with our departed husbands: Late Chief Olusanya Ishola Anibaba and Tagbo Franklin Okafo. Our mother late Obashola Edith had only one sibling and that was our uncle Ayoola George, (Brother’s father) they loved each other in a way that we cannot aptly describe. Their love and commitment to each other was unique, it was rare. Brother, was able to replicate the same in our relationship, we formed an impeccable and unbreakable bond only possible by God’s grace.

The years went by with many celebrations and a few difficult times but in it all you were the brother we could count on, no matter what. You were a perfect reflection of God’s love as you treated everyone with respect and love. Your works and sacrifice are unforgettable. You will continue to be a shining star for us and the younger ones in the family.

Great people like you don’t die, they live even in death, you, our darling brother will live in the warmth of the memories, be it your humorous laughter, your warm embrace and the pat on the back that came every time we saw you. For the rest of our lives, we would cherish you in our hearts and in the new memories we would make without you.
Adieu dear brother. Sleep well in the bossom of the Lord.

Your dear sisters,
Omotunde and Olayemi

Well! I happened to know Daddy Kayode George, when i was a small boy, late great grand pa Ayo George adopted me as one of his sons then,i mean as his last born, hmmmn!!! Splendid, there are some certain things i will do which will look offensive to pa Ayo George, right inside the a very old house that we live in the center of Lagos island then, so anytime daddy kayode come to visit his dad, papa will be reporting me to him that am very stubborn, immediately i noticed that i started panicking imagining how severe dady kayode is going to chastised me,hmmmmmmn!!! To my surprise dad will call me look my eyes and laugh, since then i knew as a small boy that Daddy is a opened minded and loving father, not only to his loved ones, but to every other children, well we love you, but Jesus loved you most, may your gentle soul continue to rest in peace, Adiu

My heart is so sore today for my Brothers, as I learn of the passing of a man I did not know well, but I know he was loved and respected. His Sons are my brothers and his wife treated me like a son. They are all an extension of this wonderful man. With a broken heart I extend my sincere condolences to the family George. Rest well Sir you have touched so many lives and will never be forgotten.MHIDSRIP.

"The Manager" as late Pa G.K George would fondly called me during his life's time here on earth.
Honestly, there is nothing more certain than death and nothing more unsure than life because life on this earth is indeed temporal. The Bible says " Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of His saints" (Ps. 116:15).
One thing I know is that God never sees His children die, but He simply sees them coming home, this is what happened on that fateful Thursday, 8th July, 2021 when I received that phone call from my big brother @ Yinka Awoyemi in Canada, saying Pa George has just gone to be with his maker.

Pa G.K George, you may be gone for now but you live forever in our memories and in our hearts because you've given us a lifetime of memories filled with laughter, joy and happiness.
I would never forget how you and I used to discuss anything Arsenal fc London because you were an ardent supporter of Arsenal fc London. I remembered how Mummy would leave the TV remote control for me on every match day just for you and I to watch our darling Arsenal fc and other football matches.

Indeed, late Pa G.K George was a special commodity for we his children and everybody around him including the elder ones once it's weekend because of the numerous pamper we always received every Saturdays and Sundays going on a cruise with him.
Infact, the memories of my first encounter with you some years ago still remain afresh in my memory Sir, and the first thing that came out of your mouth that day was "This is uncle TipTop photocopy ooo".
Daddy, you were not just a father to your biological children alone but to everyone around you with a very opened heart, their tribe nothwithstanding.
Have a peaceful sleep Daddy Gilbert Kayode George!
I love you but Jesus loves you more! Shalom!!

To my dear Mummy, Bro Olu, Bro Wole and Tumininu I say may the good Lord comfort, shield and protect you all. Remain strong in the Lord!

I will pesonally miss all your visits, jokes and love. Sleep on dear uncle till we meet on the resurrection morning. We love but God loves you more.

May Almighty God comfort and console my aunt, Olu, Wole and Tumi amen.

"Gboyus Gboyus!!" Hearing those words never failed to put a smile on my face. It meant only one thing, my uncle was around. I always thoroughly enjoyed his presence. Each time that red Toyota cressida would pull up to our house in Isolo, I would bolt down the stairs eager to open the gate, because I knew fun and laughter had arrived!!

My uncle Gilbert George was a wonderful man. He had such an infectious, bubbly personality that seemed to rub off on everyone around him. It was virtually impossible for anyone to meet this man and not instantly like him. He had a way of making people feel special. Each time I saw him, even as a 12yr old, he would insist I come sit next to him, and we would have a conversation. He never treated me like just a kid, and I appreciated that. No matter how silly or ridiculous my stories were he would listen attentively and laugh out loud. The last time I saw him in London several years ago now a full grown married man, it was like nothing had changed. The "Gboyus Gboyus" was still loud as ever and the laughter was still incessant.

Thank you uncle for the memories. Thank you for being one of my father's favorite people in the world. I know you are both now causing a raucous in heaven!

To my dear auntie, and to Olu, Wole and Tumi, I say be strong. Each one of you make his life special and he loved you all so dearly. Cherish those memories.

Goodnight my dear uncle. I will miss you.

My Dad,

there is soo much I have to, want to say but for now, on this platform, I’ll just say a couple of things . . .

The first thing to say is how thankful & grateful I am, that I was able to speak to my dad a couple of hours before he passed on to be with the angels.
He also got to speak with Olu, he got to spend time with Tumi hours earlier and mum was also in the hospital room with him throughout. So we all had the opportunity to kind of say goodbye and more importantly, he was not alone, in the end.

I am also extremely thankful, as he could not have passed on in any better way than he did at the end, as he was being massaged by the doctor and he was in a state of peace, calm and in no pain when he took his last breath.

So, as Olu & Tumi has said, all I can add for now is that I am and was always proud you were my dad and I your son. . .
I loved you soo much, and I will now accept the challenge of carrying on your personality & spirit with me to share with the world . . .
As I know we are very similar, as people have been saying over these many years, even up till recently and I’ve also come to realise how much, especially over my adult years. So, dad, you have always been and will always be with me.

My dad deserved the extremely peaceful, relaxed & painless end to his journey that he got, especially after the last couple of years!

So again, I thank the Lord for giving you such a graceful end to your journey. . .
See you on the other side dad!

Hmmmnnn, where to start. Uncle Kayode was one of the funniest, kindest, coolest and most easy going people I knew. For the 30+ years I have known him, he remained constant. This is not to say no one is without flaws but his best parts far outweigh any others. I will miss you dearly my darling Uncle and can only imagine what Aunty will be going through. It is well. I am comforted that your last moments were peaceful and I know you are in a better place. Please continue to watch over us and we promise to keep making you proud. Good bye Uncle K, Sleep well.

Death is inevitable...
Dear daddy,
Thank you for being a part of my life, thank you for the love you showered on me, thank you for showing me what it means to be compassionate, thank you for letting me know about what it means to give without expecting anything in return. You might not have been the richest man but you always gave what you had to those who needed it (blood related or not), you were a philanthropist, you always love to celebrate our birthdays.
I am so glad I got to spend your last moments with you, giving you words of affirmation, singing one of your favourite hymns, holding your hand, I am glad you got to hear your sons voices.
If God permits it, I would love to be your daughter again in the next life.
I belive you are in the light now, one of God's Angels'.
Don't worry your Titi will be fine, keep resting in peace my Angel of light Gilbert Kayode.
                      Love always &forever,
                       Your only girl

Daddy has been a rock, a hero to me. You have been so many different things to me that cannot be put into words
You are the one who instilled in me from childhood the importance of God through the Methodist Church, Olowogbowo,Lagos.
You were my travel buddy from our 1st trip to my boarding School at Warri until my 4th year. Especially the very 1st trip which took 12 hours, 6 hours at the airport in Lagos until the plane finally took off about 2pm and arrived at Benin at 3pm, where we got a taxi for the rocky road trip to Warri finally getting to the school gates at 6pm.
You were also there for many, many people not just family members and friends but even total strangers
I will miss your smile, your jokes and also the private moments when you tell me off and give advice on the serious matters
You may not be physically here but your spirit and presence is always here with me.

Driving in Lagos

July 8, 2022
People that know me well, know how much I love driving. Daddy GK was instrumental to inspiring such great confidence to get on the streets of Lagos. The first car within my full control - the famous red Toyota Cressida originally plated as LA 1294 WC and later rechristened AW 74 KJA came from Daddy GK. I went everywhere with that car. You poured my 1st driver's license just to support my use of the car, employed a driver  to drive me/with me and in a short stint I was confident on Lagos roads. DAddy GK can drive from 'anywhere to anywhere' at any time.
Some things are taught, but many other things are 'caught'. Daddy GK inspired and impacted on me a lot more by what he did than what he said. You did not the billions in a bank account but you banked multi billions in your 'managers' and many more lives you touched with your kindness and generosity.
It's been 365 days since you went to be with the Lord but the memories linger and ypu remain absolutely unforgettable! ❤️❤️
