Gill - 1 year on

March 16, 2017

This Sunday (Spanish time) will be the 1st anniversary of Gill's passing.  John, Chris, Mike and myself will be marking the occasion.  We will be staying at home and I will be cooking a variety of Gill's favourite meals.  We are hoping for a sunny day and will be planting some purpleish plants in the area designed for her and maybe scattering a few more ashes.  We will not attempt the chinese lanterns again as we nearly caused a forest fire but a dove balloon will be cast into the sky.  We would like all of you to join us in a toast to Gill at 3pm spanish time (if it is in the middle of the night) possibly at the time it was a year ago.

Gill's Memorial

June 25, 2016

Gill didn't have a funeral.  She was cremated and we had a celebration of her life.

It was a perfect day and everything went smoothly.

Linda made 3 beautiful bouquets of flowers all in Gill’s favourite colours.  About 35-40 people attended, amongst them Tim, Linda, Wendy and Mike Binns, Chet, HP, Richard & Rosie, Mike Evans and some other old friends.

Food and drink flowed and everyone had a thoroughly good time.  There was a hot and cold buffet of Maltese, Hong Kong, Thai and English food.  The stones were read right on time along with other peoples celebrations who were unable to make it. We all lit a candle for Gill and sprinkled some of her ashes.

At the end HP, Chet, Richard and Tim nearly blew themselves up trying to light a chinese lantern but HP persevered and it went miles into the sky until out of sight.

Chinese Lantern

The Chinese lantern was lit at the end of the memorial.

HP, Chet, Richard and Tim nearly blew themselves up trying to light it but HP persevered and it went miles into the sky until out of sight.

Happy flying Gill xx

Flossie

May 20, 2016

Hi Jill, and thank you so much for looking after our darling Gill, and putting together this memorial.  We were all devastated to hear of her death.

Micky knew Gill before I met him.  Their families used to go on holidays together.  When I first got to know Micky I was a bit jealous of Gill, although I realised later they were just really good friends.  We three were chatting one day, (probably around 1962) when Gill announced that she hated her name and wanted to change it.  At that time the movie “High Society” had just been released, in which Bing Crosby sang “Remember, Samantha, I’m a one girl guy”.  Gill decided to change her name to Samantha, and since that day she has been Sam to all the Kirkaldy family.

Micky died early this year, but I can say in all sincerity that he would have written how much he loved Sam, as did all the family.  Sam and John have followed us around the world, the last time we saw them was when they visited us in New Zealand in about 2006.  We had a Korean student staying with us, called Flossie, and I have attached a photo of Sam and John with Flossie.

Much love Suzy
