GRANDMA

The old rocking chair is empty today
for Grandma is no longer in it.
She's off in her car to visit or shop
and buzzes around every minute.
No one shoves Grandma back on the shelf
for she's versitile, forceful, dynamic.
That's not a pie in the oven, my dear
her baking today is ceramic.

You won't see her trundling off to bed
from a place in a warm chimney nook.
Her typewriter clickety-clicks through the night
for Grandma is writing a book.
Grandma never takes a look to the front or back
to suggest that her age is advancing.
She won't tend the babies for you anymore
for Grandma still loves her dancing.
She's not content with thinking old thoughts
with old fashioned second hand dreaming.
Don't bring your mending for Grandma to do
for Grandma just left -- tires screaming.

I have had the privilege of working with Glenda and knowing her through our shared Merrill Lynch connection. She was almost never home when I called her, out doing all the things she loved, and would fill me in when she was back from her many travels and volunteer activities. I appreciated her no nonsense approach, and her great zest for living life to its fullest, making every day count. My sympathy goes out to all the family and friends whose lives she touched.

Glenda was my buddy. She was my first friend at First Pres, having connected with me when I joined the choir. She was my buddy there, at the symphony, at many church activities, and , most importantly, now, on our trip to Germany. She shepherded me through many things as she always remembered the where and when, knew lots more about using the computer, and helped me face common frustrations with a philosophical and "don't sweat the small stuff" attitude.
It was truly an honor to have her in my life and I miss her greatly.

dear departed Glenda; and, family:
as I heard of your accident, I instantly remembered you filing in with the choir and being "drawn" to a sensation of kinship with you like "what is it about Linda?" - I was so aware of your presence. I can't get it out of my mind. I had recently stood beside you to cube bread for communion at church. Your on line tribute is beautiful, Mickey.

I loved singing with Glenda. We always had a moment or two to talk grandkids and just share some fellowship. Choir will not be the same without her. But I'm sure she will be singing right along with us high in heaven.

Aunt Glenda has always had a special place in my heart. She was always so kind and gentle. She was there for me when I went off to college at Mesa College in the 70's. She invited me to dinner and just a place to hang out. She would meet me for lunch on a whim when she moved back to GJ, she was my contact person when I wanted to know what the family was up to. I will miss her dearly! I love you Aunt Glenda! God be with you till we meet again!

I not only lost a sister, I lost my best friend. I shall miss terribly those early morning phone calls to make sure we were both up and at 'em.
Rest in peace. Till we meet again.

Glenda reached out to me at First Presbyterian Church, and I certainly appreciated her and her gentle spirit. She was especially kind when I had questions about the library at church. So precious as a choir member, and while we are singing in Grand Junction, she will be singing with Jesus.

My mom (Jean Moore Taylor) wanted me to send you her condolences. Though she has not talked to Glenda for years she thought of her often with fondness!

Mickey, Paul, Elaine, and the rest of the family,
I feel that I, too, lost my mother and sister all in one. I loved Glenda dearly and my prayers are with all of you. We were so fortunate to have spent the time together since 1993 with the four cousins. And I thank God we didn't pass up the chance. And we know that Glenda did not leave this earth with any "would of, could of, or should of" thoughts. She lived life to the fullest and God bless her for that!
Love, Marilyn

Elaine, Mickie, Paul and family,
I was weeding my flower garden today and had such a peaceful visit with Glenda and my cherished thoughts of her. She has ALWAYS been apart of my life. As a little girl I just thought she was so cool. We all grew up and all went differant directions. Then when she lost Bob she, Elaine, Marilyn and myself vowed to have a cousin week-end every fall. There are so many memories in my heart of those special times. She loved her family so much. She was so proud of each and everyone of them. She was devoted to her family, friends and to her faith. I am blessed to have had her in my life and the sister cousins week-end every fall will continue......her funny little laugh and twinkle in her eye will be with us always! This is a loss that truly impacts my life. I am looking forward to seeing all of her family in July. Until then. . You are all in my prayers

Her Life

A Year and a Half Later...

November 24, 2018

Dear Friends and Family of Glenda Moore,

Much has happened since Glenda passed a year and a half ago and we would like to share a couple highlights with all who knew and loved her.

Sons Mickey and Paul have been fortunate enough to be able to bring one of Glenda's dreams to reality.  Glenda always had a vision of creating a mountain family retreat that she referred to as Moore Haven. Yes, the family did own a small lot and cabin in Hahns Peak Colorado but without electricity, running water, toilet etc., it was nothing more than camping with a wood roof.  Glenda and Mickey had been trying for a few years to build on the property but could not because of County and State wastewater regulations. In addition Hahns Peak was becoming expensive and quite crowded, no longer the destination for solitude it was 30 years ago.

Glenda's real estate holdings immediately sold and we decided to use some of the estate funds to purchase mountain property close to Grand Junction that would bring Glenda's mountain family retreat dreams to life.  Introducing Moore Haven:

And what is a mountain retreat without its own pine and aspen National Forest off the back porch:

Moore Haven’s current 3-story, 2 bedroom, (1) full + (2) ½ bath cabin has beds to sleep 12 and includes:

  • 1.5 acres for camping
  • Full RV hook-ups
  • Washer & dryer
  • Gazebo with hammocks
  • Cooking fire pit
  • BBQ grill
  • Fishing boat
  • Foosball Table
  • Year-round access

Moore Haven is located on the Grand Mesa, ½ mile from Powderhorn Mountain Ski Resort (http://www.powderhorn.com/) and 45 minutes form Grand Junction, Colorado.  It is our pleasure to share this wonderful experience with all friends and family, just email us at cabin@moorehaven.life for information, availability and scheduling.  Please do not be shy, we’ve had nearly 15 bookings so far this year and are dedicated to sharing Glenda’s vision will all. (Send Facebook friend requests to https://www.facebook.com/moore.haven.710)

On the one year anniversary of Glenda’s passing, Mickey and Paul were presented with a very special memorial plaque by their close family.  It is prominently displayed and we couldn’t be more proud of the heartfelt sentiment.

Today, November 24, 2018 would have been Glenda’s 84th birthday.  Mickey and Carol are spending the day at Moore Haven setting out Glenda’s Christmas decorations in preparation for enjoying the Christmas Holiday with our family.

And yes it is snowing!!!

The Moore Family is very grateful for all those who had touched Glenda and those she touched in return.  Live Well!

Grasp Things Firmly

A crash of something being dropped is heard…

… a synonym for excrement comes wafting from my mother in the kitchen

… followed closely by my father’s booming voice from his upstairs office saying… “grasp things firmly!”

A constant in mom’s life was dropping things.

Even in recent years the over/under was 3 or 4 as to how many items would hit the floor as she unloaded the dishwasher.

While mom made a habit of not grasping things firmly, they were just “things.”

Glenda did however have a firm grasp on what really mattered throughout her life.

Embracing Family and Friends, driving Faith through this Church, volunteering her time, contributing to those less fortunate and reveling in her independence, good health and love of life at age 82.

Mom’s grasp on life was self evident as in the end she traveled and sang in Germany with her church family.

Glenda had so much that truly mattered in her clutches that it's no wonder she kept dropping the little material things.

I thank you mom for being the clutz you were and showing us what is really important in life.  And we the family thank everyone for honoring Glenda with your friendship, thoughts, prayers and well wishes.  It is obvious that she will remain a sage after death for all of us.

Be Well.

Doing What She Loved

June 30, 2017

I took Mom to the airport on Tuesday the 13th.  She was so excited to get underway.  She'd been pacing since the early hours of the dawn.  The night before she told me she didn;t think she could be part of the choir much longer because of her faltering voice.  "But", she said, "I do love it so...."

Glenda’s 80th Birthday

June 25, 2017

Glenda was an incredible sports fan of the Rockies, Avalanche and Broncos.  So much so that she never missed watching a single game, live or recorded, and could name all players, coaches and network announcers of every team!  But while she had been to a number of Bronco’s and Rockies games, she had never attended an Avalanche hockey game.

I decided that taking Mom to an Avalanche hockey game was going to be the cornerstone of her 80th birthday celebration.  I told her that her birthday party would be the weekend of her birthday and her response was that it had better not be a surprise party.  I said no but it would be a suprise event.

I contacted Kronke Entertainment (owners of the Avalanche) to see if they could do something special during the game and they were very happy to make Mom’s Avalanche game experience extraordinary.  It was on.  I then reserved a English tea party before the game and a visit to the Chihuli sculpture exhibit the following day at the Denver Botanical Gardens.  The weekend was complete.

We invited Glenda’s sister Elaine to join Glenda, Carol and myself and off we drove to Denver,  We checked into the Oxford Hotel and began the festivities with a tea party at the House of Commons English Tea Room.  A number of friends from the Denver area joined us and a lovely time was had by all.

We left the grace and elegance of the English Tea Room and went straight to the chaos and aggression that is Avalanche Hockey.  Kronke Sports met us and said that they had something special for Glenda during the first TV intermission and that they would come and get her after about 8 minutes into the game. When they came they took Glenda, Carol and I up to the top of the first section where Mom was introduced on the big screen video and wished a happy 80th birthday in front of 17,000 fans.  Then they had Mom play pictionary with Dennis Johnston from the Avalanche.

As we walked back to our seats everyone in our section was wishing her a happy birthday.  After the game we were in the hotel bar having a night cap and complete strangers were coming up to Mom saying they saw her in the big screen during the game, how great she was and wishing her happy birthday. She was a star and I was so proud of her.  I will always remember that moment whenever seeing one of her favorite teams play.
