His Life
April 8, 2017

DOUGLAS, Glenn Alexander

It is with great sadness that we announce Glenn’s passing in Pembroke, Ontario, Canada on April 1st, 2017.

Glenn was born in Montreal, Quebec on July 1st, 1928, the son of Alex and Alice Douglas.  He spent his formative years in Montreal attending Willingdon Elementary School then West Hill High School.  It was there that he partook in the sports programs, especially hockey and football, and celebrated with many championship teams. He developed many life long and enduring friendships during his high school days and remembered them as some of the happiest times of his life.

After high school, Glenn attended McGill University. He graduated in 1952 with a BSc in Physical Education. While attending university, Glenn played professional football with the Montreal Allouette football club, and was a member of the Grey Cup winning team in 1949.

Glenn’s business life began in the Sales and Marketing departments of a manufacturer of industrial chemicals and ended in the employ of an environmental company. He liked to say he began by polluting the environment and ended by trying to clean it up.

Glenn’s retirement years were spent in the beautiful Ottawa Valley where he enjoyed hunting, fishing and being awed by beautiful sunsets viewed from his boat out on the Ottawa river. This was an ideal location for Glenn to continue his life-long affinity with nature, which brought him immense pleasure and joy.

Glenn was pre-deceased by his parents Alex and Alice and his brother Robert and sister in-law Shirley.  Left to grieve are his loving wife Charlotte and his four children: daughter Donna and her sons Emrys and Caeleigh; son Glenn Gary (Leesa) and their daughters Brianna (Michael)(with new great granddaughter Olivia Rose) and Bethany; son Robert Wayne (Trudy) and their four children Alex, Maddie, Katie and Mac; daughter Debbie (Mike) and son Declan.

Glenn is also survived by his dear brother William Blair (Audrey) and family; several nieces, nephews, cousins and a large extended family on his wife’s side.

As per Glenn’s wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be no formal service or visitation. We encourage you to celebrate the life of this wonderful man in the privacy of your heart.

Many thanks to the caring staff of Riverview Heights Retirement Residence where Glenn and Charlotte have enjoyed many happy years. Thanks also to Dr. Peter Galley and the staff at Pembroke General Hospital. We are grateful to the the caring staff at Marianhill's Complex Continuing Care Unit, who ensured that Glenn’s final days were spent in dignity and comfort.

In lieu of flowers, a donation to the charity of your choice would be appreciated.

Dad, you will be greatly missed. Rest in Peace.  Loving wishes from your family.
