I met your father through his volunteer time at Children's Mercy. He had such a kind and joyful spirit that brought so much comfort to the families that walked through our doors. These families and patients often arrive with a sense of stress and concern, and the minute they saw Glenn's helpful smile and the stickers he secretly kept stashed in his pocket for just the right kiddo a smile and sense of calm came over them. I remember the day he said he needed to step down from volunteering for a while. I didn't think it would be the last time I saw his smile or twinkle in his eyes. Today I discovered the news and want to tell his family and friends how much we adored Glenn. We at Children's Mercy considered him a part of our family. He was a gift to us and someone we will always remember that brought joy, love, and compassion in all he did while serving. While viewing the photos on this page of Glenn with his family and friends it was clear that the same love and passion for life we witnessed at the hospital he experienced through his time with his family and friends. You can see that same twinkle and love in these photos. He lived a life of purpose and love. Thank you for sharing your father with us. We miss him and pray for your healing during this loss. May you find comfort.

Glenn was a volunteer at Children's Mercy Hospital and we worked together for quite some time. He was loving, lively, energetic, and worked hard to bring a smile and happiness into the lives of all our patients and families. He was a delight to work with and I will miss him.

I remembered that today is Glen's birthday.  We were born in the same year and month. I can picture Glen ready to usher on first Sunday on the side of the church where our family is seated every Sunday.

My husband, George Rucker, Jr., and Glenn served in Navy aboard the USS Enterprise together and were very good friends. Glenn was best man at our Wedding, 2005. There's not enough words to express how much George and I loved Glenn. When George was going through chemo Gary would show up for support at KCVA and he would supprise George at his radiation treatment. This was during months of August -Dec 2019. George and Gary would talk often but Oct until last night couldn't reach him. We knew something was wrong and I did Google... I met Glenn about 1980 in Kansas City and we became good friends. I had a lot of card parties back then at my apartment in Prairie Village, KS, and Glenn was one of my regulars. We laughed a lot and had big fun. I am posting a picture of him on this site, circa 1980. He was the first person I ever met from Philadelphia and I thought of him every time I visited there. Rest in peace, my friend.

I will miss you birthday month friend. Your smiling face is imbedded as a forever memory. I will miss your hugs as we entered the church on Sunday mornings and other times. Thanks for being the first person to lay tile in my bathroom and also tell me that I should use the large tile in my kitchen not small tile pieces. My husband Noah and daughter Courtney will miss you dearly.

Glenn was a long-time client at my office and always a pleasure to speak to.  He was a true gentleman and a hero who served his country proudly on the USS Enterprise.  Glenn, I will miss our talks, my deepest sympathies to the family.

Glenn, you will be especially missed. There wasn't a time that passed, where you alway's provided encouragement, during the rough times in my life, as well as when things were going well. Will miss our friendship and laughter. Now, you're an angel in God's court.

The Gentlemen of Distinction alumni would like to extend to you our deepest sympathies at the loss of your father, Mr. Glenn Gay.

Glenn was a charter member of the Gentlemen of Distinction. Our organization was established in 1981. During our active years, Glenn provided invaluable leadership and held a deep commitment to our purpose of giving. This dedication to service in large measure allowed us to contribute approximately $100,000.00 to numerous worthwhile charities throughout the Kansas City area.

Within the organization, Glenn was always thoughtful and the representative voice of reason. If our organization began to wane in its drive, Glenn would always passionately remind us of our mission of service and motivate us back toward our intended purpose.

Glenn was a messenger of faith, hope, brotherhood and community. He enriched all of us by his actions and words. He was in every sense, a truly remarkable man. Glenn will always remain in the memory of those who loved, respected and cared for him.

We can ensure you that every member of our alumni held Glenn with the greatest affection and respect. Please know that your grief is shared by many.
We hope you can find comfort in the many special memories you shared with your father.

We will truly miss a true friend to everybody. Glenn always had a warm and cheery smile whenever he would greet you. Always willing to help anyone. Glenn when I got the news of your homegoing it brought tears to my eyes. You were the most kind hearted, funny, smooth and just all loving person. I always looked forward to seeing you at church holding open the door when the choir was coming through. You were truly your own person, but so personable. If I didn't feel good you would always make me feel better. So not being able to see that warm face again greeting me will be sad, but it also makes me joyful to know you are with God. Take your rest soldier, you deserve it.

Glenn you will truly be missed by all of us. Whenever I was greeted by Glenn on Sunday mornings, he always had a smile on his face and a hug for you. You were a good and faithful servant of the Lord and always willing to help around the church.  I know that your at peace.

I will miss Glenn's warmth and friendliness. I will miss getting a hug from him at church on Sunday mornings as he ushered. I will always appreciate the work it did at our home and his skilled workmanship.

Glenn, I know that now you are wrapped up in God's loving arms.
