Shortly after we were married, Gloria drove to Montgomery Ward's corporate offices where we both worked in different departments. ( Where we met at first.) In the late 70's. I must have taken the train to work, she drove seperately, she had to be there that day earlier than normal for a dept. meeting. She was driving east on Chicago Ave. just west of the Chicago River, before the bridge. Well.... She hit a huge Chicago size Pothole before the bridge! She stopped the car, and afraid to get out and look, ( very bad area at the time.), it was still dark out. A Chicago cop was parked on the other side of the bridge, ahead of her, turned his squad around and went to Gloria's aid. 1st thing he asked her--- "What happened here?" And of course, Gloria being Gloria said " I was driving to work up ahead to Ward's and THE "ROAD HIT ME!" The cop said "what?"... "THE ROAD HIT ME!" Gloria said... Well, if you knew Gloria,  I was rolling with laughter when she told me all this, knowing she was OK of course! The cop was in dis- belief!! He told her to be more careful of the Potholes, and don't let them "hit you anymore, they're dangerous around here!"
