I was parceled off to the North’s political capital
With a mandate to garner intellectual capital
Moments later James sauntered in
James Asanye Bassey: sporting a wide grin
For national service I preceded him to Makurdi
He soon ambled in after rigorous study
Of concepts and convoluted lines
Pleasant habitats and avant garde designs
I migrated to the Aso neighbourhood
He welcomed me with showers of good
His missus was soft-spoken and witty
A jewel from the sands of the confluence city
Gloria Manasoko Fowowe in her famed caravan
Spawned culinary delights that revived the man
Giving strength in this abode of rocks
Enabling stability in this land of shocks
After partaking of her legendary meal
My taste buds learned the fake from the real
She precedes us all to the celestial gallery
Watching as we fiddle with unused cutlery
We must retire to grieve and add up our loss
The greenhorn widower and the rest of us

Mrs Bassey, my sister as we normally call ourselves was for me an encourager who will be on your case until what you're working on is achieved.

She kept calling and inviting us to come back to church when left, and will always send me devotional prayers every morning.
She will patronize me just to encourage me in my trade.
She was of few words, but very strong on the inside.
She actually made me write the Igala dish menu in her cookbook. She was on me until I did it.
She was a patient, calm, resilient, faithful, loving, kind, and prayerful sister.
She will tell me ,listen to me my sister, and I I will have to. She touched my heart.
May she continue to rest in our Lord's bosom until we meet to part no more.

W will always remember you for your gentleness, kindness, good deeds, humility and hospitality. The vacuum you left is irreplaceable. You were such an interesting personality. May the Lord watch over your family members, your friends and the Body of Christ in FWC. My Sweet Sister and friend, keep resting peacefully in the Bosom of our Father until we meet to part no more. Big-mummy, you remain forever fresh in our hearts I might run out of words to describe what you mean & represented in our lives generally while you were here with us.
You remain a priceless Jewel that's irreplaceable, you were an enigma of beauty and your beauty reflected in even in how you treated everyone that came around you.
Your meekness was next to none it reflected even in how speak, your words were so soft that could bring healing to the broken.
You were a people developer, we watched you groomed people who the world had written off into becoming successful.
Ohh! How can we ever be able to replace or fill the vacuum you have left, Angels like you are only sent one in a lifetime & very few in any generation.
I remember how you will call your daughter/sister Nna-adama in your usual manner to check up on her and the people in lokoja, you were far from home but your goodheart always reach out to the people at home.
Will the aged and elderly women you normally send gifts to during festive seasons ever forget you.
Mummy like a volcano you passed through this earth and left irreplaceable impacts, your life ought to be understudied because it was genuinely a Christ-like life. You carried Jesus everywhere you went.
I remember you calling a month before you ascended to heaven saying "Sunny, you not too pleased with the fact that have not started anything yet & you brought an offer that would better my life little did I know that you will be leaving us".
You succeeded in virtually in all sphere of endeavour you ventured into and destinies have been transformed through them.
My mum Nna-Adama will always say she learnt business from Aunty-gloria, thank you for pouring out yourself into her and so many others.
You are not here with us again but your voice is still been heard loudly because of your undeniable impact, humanity felt your impacts greatly.
Heroes they say come in different forms, sizes and shapes but you came in the form of a Big-mummy we are eternally grateful to God for a blessed life well spent..
Rest on;
A trailblazer
A homebuilder
A people developer
A pacesetter
A lover of peace and unity
A virtuous woman
A mother in Israel.
Mrs. Gloria manasoko fowowe Bassey
We will forever miss you❤️!!!

A TRIBUTE TO A DEAR MOM
MUMMY GLORIA BASSEY, a mother who loved with all her heart! She treated me like her own daughter. I remember going to Abuja for holidays with BUNMI her fist daughter, she and Daddy would provide all that we need to be happy, mom taught me how to cook some yummy dishes! Also, when I would sing, she was always encouraging me to keep it up, Her favourite song from my fist album was ‘Bamishe “. Mummy Gloria was a great encouragement to my music ministry! I never knew that my visit in 2017 to Abuja from Canada was going to be the last time of seeing her. She gave me lots of hugs that day. We kept in touch She was always sending me prayers and lovely words on my WhatsApp. Her last words to me were “Good morning my dear, amen thanks”.
Mummy Gloria Bassey, I know you are in heaven and you will be forever missed. I love you ma.

My mother who sat and watched my infant head,
While sleeping on my cradle bed.

I was just on the ground,
With pieces of me shattered all around.
I remember when you were here,
With your beautiful locks of hair,
You bore me on your shoulder,
You watched me grow older,
You cast out all fear,
Into my life you brought so much cheer.

But now you have gone yonder,
A place that’s so much better,
I know you’ll be looking down on me,
Cheering me to go further.

I’ll continue to say Hallelujah,
You were an angel in the shape of my mum.
When I fall down you’ll be there holding me up. As God takes you back He’ll say,
Hallelujah you are home.

It’s a home that’s way better than here,
I eagerly await the day I’ll meet you there.
For this world is a jungle,
Lions horses and big bears.
But my heart will hold on.
As I reminisce on our days of fun,
For they so sweetly soothe my pain.
I know I’ll surly see you again.

Rest on my dearest mother.
My thoughts will echo your name until I see you again
I love you today, tomorrow, forever and a day more
Your Son- Alexander J Bassey (Alex_Talker)

AN ODE TO GLORIA MANASOKO FOWOWE BASSEY
THE JEWEL OF LOKOJA

Lokoja busted into singing, dancing and jubilation at the announcement of your birth.
A princess born after five soldiers.
The people of Lokoja bore gifts, as though they were the three wise men visiting Jesus at the manger.
they never forgot to celebrate you once the 19th of August rolled by every year.
Every child your pair wanted to be close to the Headmaster’s daughter
you were akin to the Queen of England.
At the news of your peaceful exit, Lokoja stood still.

Glo-Glo
Glo -Glo, the favourite of her brother (The Galadima of Lokoja).
He is the 2nd of the pack and you were the last of them all.
Little wonder you were the apple of his eye.
The love and bond you shared was second to none.
He actually taught us how to treat you like the Princess you were.

Aunty Glo
You were everybody’s aunty Glo.
As a young lady you were everyone’s big sister.
Paid tuition for many, accommodated many, paid house rents for many.
Aunty Glo, you were many things to different people.

Entrepreneur
You had ‘The Midas Touch’.
You would say “Bunmi I can sell anything”.
You taught me the most I know as an Entrepreneur.
You guided me until you said yourself “I am proud of you”.
Your Business name GLOVAN (GLOria’s caraVAN a business you started in a caravan, lives on).
Till death you were driven by positioning Glovan and making it a global name.

The wife of James Bassey
Your love for Daddy was only second to your love for God.
Love so pure.
Love so divine.
Love so natural.
You honoured him, supported him, protected him, pampered him and propelled him.
You were the prophet God gave him.
You were his prayer support.
You were his counselor.
You were his third eye.
You were his stabilizer.

Abiyamo Tooto
The love you had for Alex and I was unparalleled.
Your unending prayers and prophecies are profound.
Your words of wisdom are deep.
No problem too deep brought to your table left without a solution.
You propelled me into the world of business (when I once had a white-collar job, you would say “Bunmi your place is in the business world, learn all you can but remember that you belong to the business world.”
You birthed me in ministry (you always sent me Pst. Sarah’s messages to listen to and will always say, “one day you will preach like Pst Sarah”).
You mentored me
You tasked me, challenged me, pulled me back like the catapult string then shot me out to the world.
Throughout this year you kept saying “Bunmi I’m proud of you” and kept wondering why but now I know and understand better.

Mother to all
Sometimes I felt ‘kinda’ jealous because you were everybody’s mummy.
Everyone seemed to have a pinch of you.
A pinch that multiplied and left an indelible mark in the life of many.
Sons and daughters coming from afar and calling you blessed.

Many things you were
Many things you were to many people.
A prayer warrior.
A student of the word.
A counselor.
A burden bearer.
A philanthropist.
An excellent cook.
Unassuming.
Patient and kind hearted.
Always looking out for the progress of others.
Always looking out for ways be a blessing to others.
A woman of your words (even when it hurts you).
A woman driven with passion.
A woman with an extraordinary large heart for everyone.
you are the redefinition of purpose – making great impact in your little space.

what more can I say?
Rest on Beautiful woman with a beautiful soul.
Now you have victory over hypothyroidism
Now your legacy lives on.
Your prophecies over our lives will speak.
We love you and are consoled that we will meet on the resurrection morning.
Sleep on “The Jewel of Lokoja”.
Sleep on aunty Glo.
Sleep on Mummy, I love you.

Your daughter
Olubunmi Wisdom-Elewoyori

A trubute to a dear friend: Mrs Gloria Bassey

March 10, 2021
Mrs Bassey, as you are fondly called among our group of friends, words are inadequate to say much except that you will be forever missed.
The reality has finally set in. No more phone calls or chats, or a reminder or advice on crucial issues.
I will always remember your quote each time we discuss on matters of integrity "We are people of the Old Time Religion". Hun! That is a reminder of real and unadulterated salvation in Jesus.  Hallelujah!
Your zeal and hardwork to see others succeed and push them into greatness is so strong. Your memory lives on even as you rest in the bosom of our Lord.
