Gloria Macias Martinez died peacefully on January 30, 2019 at the age of 77. Gloria was born in El Paso, Texas on September 27, 1941 to Pedro and Maria Macias. She was one of 10 children. She met and married Robert Olivo Martinez in El Paso, T.X. The couple married at St. Pius Parish on December 17, 1966; four months before Robert was activated to Vietnam. They had one son, Rob and two daughters, Theresa and Margie.
They traveled the Southwest living in Colorado, New Mexico, Texas, and Arizona. They made Albuquerque, New Mexico their home for 30 years and then retired to Chandler, Arizona where they have lived for the past six years. Gloria was an active member of Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary parish in Albuquerque, N.M. where she was involved with the Small Christian Community, Charismatic Prayer group, she was a Eucharistic Minister, and participated in Women’s Catholic retreats.
She had a wonderful way of making friends; she was kind and generous, loving and compassionate. She was full of life, full of energy, loved music and dancing and mostly, she loved Jesus immensely. The thing that brought her most joy was spending time with her grandchildren; playing games, baking cookies, pies and cakes and telling them stories of her past years. She attended all of their sporting events - she never missed a game.
Gloria had a very loving relationship with her husband, a wonderful relationship with her children, and an incredible relationship with her grandchildren. She loved them all very much. Gloria is survived by her loving husband of 52 years, Robert, her son Rob, daughter Theresa and son-in-law Kevin, and daughter Margie. Five grandchildren; Isaac who is in the Navy stationed in Virginia; Olivia, who is studying to be a forensic nurse; Sophia, who is entering her second year at Xavier College Preparatory; Gabrielle and Benjamin who are both in the seventh grade at Aprende Middle School.
Gloria was dearly loved by all of her family and friends; she will be deeply missed. We love you Mamacita, Mom, and Nana.
A Rosary service will be held at 11:00 a.m. followed by a Mass service at 11:30 a.m. on Feb.15 at St. Andrew the Apostle Catholic Church in Chandler.
