Gordon H. Hoffman, 71, of Pittsgrove, New Jersey, passed away on Monday August 10, 2020. Gordon was born in Millville, New Jersey to the late Harold (Hoppy) Hoffman and Eva Fern Hoffman.

Gordon served in the US Army 101st Airborne during the Tet Offensive in Vietnam in the years 1968-1969. He served honorably and was the recipient of 3 purple hearts during his service. His wounds never stopped his pride in defending his country.He was proud of his time and served with love and loyalty for America.

Gordon was a skilled tradesman, owning and operating GH Tile for more than 25 years. He blessed many with his skill and creativity along the Jersey Shore and was personally requested by many famous clients. He loved creating and transforming homes into places of beauty for his clients.

His absolute passion was music.He could make his guitar sing and loved to tell stories through his playing. He lived for sharing the stage and entertaining friends and family with his wife Brenda and his best friends and band mates, Sonny and Ginger. He took his love of music and his incredible gift on the road all over the United States making amazing memories and new friends at every venue they played. His bands “Southbound” and “Leather & Lace” were his heart and soul. Gordon’s gift was one passed from his father Hoppy to his son Derek….a legacy to live on.

He loved to travel and visited many places all over the world but loved going out west and to Maine every year.…motorcycles, roller coasters and theme parks, especially Busch Gardens and Walt Disney World.

Gordon was predeceased by his parents Harold and Eva Fern Hoffman, sister Donna Lorenzo, brother Wayne Lorenzo (Sandy), nephew Vincent Lorenzo and in-laws John and Jean Bell.He is survived by his wife Brenda Hoffman, son Derek Hoffman, Daughters Jessica Kirk (Jeff), Denise Hoffman, grandchildren Collin Hoffman, Seth Kirk, Brad Davis Jr., Emma Davis, sister in-law Sandy Lorenzo (Wayne), niece Donna Lorenzo, as well as many uncles, aunts, cousins, nieces and nephews.

Gordon’s life will be celebrated and honored at a later date when it is safe to travel and gather.

Gordon and I met when he moved from Millville to South Seaville. While still in grade school we got interested in music. He got a cheap guitar and I got a snare drum, didn't even have a cymbal. We started getting together, jamming in my mom's basement. We stuck to it and eventually started a band. Some of the other members that we played with in the beginning were, Glenn Kuhns -bass guitar, Neil Prettyman- rhythm guitar, Steve Robinson- lead singer, Gordon-lead guitar, and me on drums. We had a couple of different line ups in the band. My brother Bob played rhythm guitar for awhile. As mentioned in the other post, we eventually got to the line up (Doc) mentioned in '67, Paper Mache. Gordon and I were close friends for quite a long time. We stayed at each others houses and generally hung out most of high school. After he and I were released from the military, we formed a country music band called Sundown 2. We played a lot of jobs. I finally gave it up, but Gordon kept playing. When he finally moved out of South Seaville, I pretty much lost contact with him. In the last few years I tried to connect with him but could never get the right number or location. He will be fondly remembered. We sure had some fun. So sorry we never reconnected.

Gordon, Ticky Craver, Stevie Robinson, Kenny Karstens and I started a band back in '67, playing MTHS dances and the like. It was called Paper Mache and we jammed mostly at Ticks or in Gordon's dads barn. We ended up winning a Battle of the Bands in Ocean City in 1968, competing with 10 or 12 other bands. It was a big moment for a bunch of kids and definitely a big kick. Tick n Gordon went into the military soon after, and when he got back Gordon n me stayed in touch because of Southbound and I always tried to send as much tile work his way til I moved away in '99. Nothin but good memories of you buddy - God bless you!

Memories of music with Gordon.

I will always remember times playing with Southbound. We played the Rusty Nail often which was one of my favorite places to play. Gordon taught me how to play Rhythm guitar and stuck me out front of the band as one of the lead singers. He will always be remembered.  I got my start mainly from playing with Southbound.  Never will I forget the great times we had. Gordon, Bruce, Dan, Paul and myself. What a band it was. RIP Gordon til we meet again.
