It is hard to believe that it has been two years since I received the phone call that there was a fire at Gordon's camper, and that he was "gone". I first thought that "gone" meant that he wasn't home when the fire occurred. I suppose that my brain was reluctant (and still is) to accept what "gone" really meant. I am reminded of him often. When bad weather is looming, I still find myself expecting a call or text from Gordon warning me to take cover.

From what I knew of Gordon "K2" Porter, he was a great guy and my mom's best friend. Sadly I never got to really know the guy, which I do regret. So I don't have too many memories of him. But, what I do know, is he died doing what he loved, tinkering with something.

Gordon....you truly were a one of a kind guy. I enjoyed your company so much. You were one of the most intelligent men I have ever known. You were always on the cutting edge of technology. You and i would sit around for hours "debating" the meaning of song lyrics. My favorite was our debate over the song "The Freshman".   You taught me that no matter what happens in life that everything would turn out ok. I wish that I began living by that philosophy alot sooner than I did. You took my favorite picture of Kevin and me in our younger days. You and Mrs. Porter gave Maisie her first stuffed teddy bear. I turned you on to a band. Then the next time I saw you you had a CD of their songs that we listened to together. Buddy i wish you were here so we could say Happy Birthday to you. You are loved! Peace out & Word!

I have great memories of Gordon and HAM radio. He called me his, Elmer. A name for the person who mentored you in Amateur Radio.
I remember him introducing me to GOOGLE before GOOGLE was everywhere.. back in 1998.
And if you needed an electronic piece or part, Gordon had an extra for you.
I hate we lost touch.. peace, Brother.

Gordon K2 Porter was my cousin. I didn't really get to know Gordon until we were in our late teenage years. We lived in different states and most years only got to see one another once a year when I would take my mom to visit his mom and family. It was a trip my family always looked forward to. Our family in Alabama have always been special to us and we have always wished we lived closer together. One of my favorite things about our trips would be what I called, "The Porter Hugs "! Being a hugger myself, what I loved the most about "The Porter Hugs" was knowing that you'd been hugged when you walked away. Those hugs that kinda stay with you and make you feel the love. I will never forget the first time Gordon gave me a hug or any hug that he ever gave me. He lifted me up off the floor! Needless to say, I wasn't expecting it. He was definitely a humorous man and so full of knowledge. We will never forget him or our trips to see all of you! Hugs to all of you! To all our Alabama Porter family, We love you and are sorry to hear about Godon K2.

Prayers of peace and comfort for your family Gordon. I will always remember early 1983 when you were in the same hospital as my mother. My sister would always visit you and lay on the floor to talk to you. Your sense of humor ,I remember you were always making us laugh. You were so much fun.

My thoughts and prayers are with you Diane, Greg and Amy all the family. I baby sit for the Porter's when they moved here to Pell City. Gordon and Gregg said they didn't need a baby sitter Amy was just a baby. Gordon and Gregg loved for me to draw disney characters and play games. Gordon would hide from me playing hide and seek. He was always such a joy. Even as he grew up to be a fine young man. Always full of life loved that smile. Enjoyed singing Happy Birthday to him and getting hugs whenever I ran into him. Having a grand reunion with Keith, Dolores and Debbie. Praying for peace and comfort to you all. Love you all. Til we meet again some day. God Bless!

It seems like after teenage years I knew Gordon's entire family. While Gordon and I were the same age, I never really got to know him very closely. He was always around town, always very jovial, and had a fresh perspective on life. I love the Porter family, and my wishes and condolences are heartfelt. May you find peace in your times of loss.

Gordon was a good friend to my late husband Gregg Kirby (KI4BY). they were active in St. Clair County A.R.E.S Ham Radio Club together during the years we lived in Pell City, AL. Gordon's friendship and technical knowledge meant a lot to Gregg. Gordon, you will be remembered dearly.

You my friend will be missed until the day we meet again in that place where there is no more pain and strife, and we will find new things to get into. My thoughts and prayers are with your loving family and the extended family of friends. You most definitely made an impression on everyone that had the honor of knowing you.
