In November, 2019 Rogan and his partner Zel travelled back to Onerahi, NZ on an adventure, with me in tow. For five days we stayed just up the road on top of the hill and I walked our old tracks around Beach Road, absorbing the never-changing landscape and gardens. Meeting people on the walks was amazing, as they all knew 13 Hill Street and were curious as to its prior history, knowing only the "new" owners who they thought had been there forever. What an overwhelming feeling to go back and visit and marvel at the beautiful home they have made. Everything that we would have done, if only things had turned out differently. Their love of the house and the gardens was so evident and they proudly showed me all the nooks and crannies, asking questions and pointing out improvements. What a blessing. I came away SO happy that it had gone to them and was still loved so much.
I spent time too at your little house and painted the deck on a sunny day, giving it the drink it needed. It needs someone to love it as well, and while the tenant does a sufficient job, it still looks rented. Hopefully sooner rather than later we will move back, take on the house and make it a home again.
We had such a lovely time there in Whangarei, the bad times faded into the background leaving just the good. Sitting on your deck looking at "our" view was emotional but somehow calming, reliving your smile and stillness. Happy birthday again. Neecey
