This week made me remember a story...Wendell talked Greg into letting his dad give him a buzz cut- Wendell said he would pay Greg the cost of a haircut if he let his dad buzz his hair- Wendell went right down the middle first swipe and said "Oh No!" The buzz cut took a full hour- Greg's dad enjoying the whole thing- Greg obviously nervous the entire time- it was a decent cut and Greg earned some cash! A much better outcome then the mohawk dare he took later on- most likely a dare that came about while Greg was partying with his friends- the result was a very embarrassing mohawk haircut- which had to be fixed with a very short buzz cut.

Greg with his 2 best gals

May 19, 2018

this was Greg's 19th birthday. Britney and Kaley came to celebrate. Since Greg was legal to drink I bought him a bottle of champagne, which none of them liked!

Just Like His Big Bro

August 26, 2014

On August 22nd, 2014 we were in the Bell store, Wendell was trying to add me to his shared plan. Brooklyn and Nathan were playing with some tiny jewels. Brooklyn told me that Nathan put one in his nose. With an audience watching I asked Nathan to blow his nose while I plugged his other nostril, he blew once and nothing I asked him to blow again harder and he did and the jewel flew out of his nostril. This reminded me of a time when Greg got a bad nose bleed that I could not stop. I was ready to run him up to the hospital. I asked him if he had put anything in his nose and he said yes a piece of leggo. I looked in his nose and sure enough a small red leggo piece was in there. I used my cake tester to scoop it out, it came out with a long blood clot and then his nose bleed instantly quit. We decided that nothing would ever go in our noses again.

Tumbler Ridge Memories

June 2, 2014

We went to Tumbler Ridge this weekend, May 30-June 1st 2014. I was remembering how excited Greg was that we were moving to Tumbler Ridge. The first day living there I had to have a search party out for Greg. I was driving around franticly looking for him; I saw a police officer driving by and flagged him down. I told him we had just moved to TR and my son went for a bike ride and that I couldn't find him. Greg was only 8 at the time and knew his way around alittle bit since we hung out in TRfor short visits in the year we owned the house before moving there. After driving around for awhile I seen him riding his bike with a new friend and a huge grin on his face. He had a slurpee from Tags that his new friend had bought him. Not long after I had to track down the police officier and tell him that I had found my son. We had Greg's 11th or 12th bday at Flatbed Campground. We rode our bikes to the party, had a weiner roast and hit a pinata and then loaded our bikes in the truck and drove everybody home. Good times in Tumbler Ridge, Greg made many friends there and never complained once about leaving his friends in Rocky. In the yard at our trailer was a make shift fire pit out of large rocks in a circle. Wendell and I went to Tumbler one weekend to camp at the trailer for Grizfest. It became apparant after we arrived that there had been a party  in the yard of the trailer. After chatting with the neighbours we discovered that Greg had thrown the party. He went to all the neighbours in the close and told them that he was having a party, that they were invited and requested that they do not call the police, but kindly let him know if the party needed to quiet down. After Wendell chewed Greg out about the party,  he told us he wanted to buy the trailer and that the party was alot of fun!

Happy Birthday Greg

May 18, 2014

Greg and Maisey are wearing Greg's Are You Looking At My Nuts shirt. I was not sure if Greg would be able to wear this shirt to school, but low and behold Maisey and Greg were allowed to wear it to school! Brooklyn is quite the party planner it would seem that every weekend one of her stuffies is celebrating a birthday. This party is her doll, Emma's, birthday. Brooklyn plans the food, games, and decorations. Harris brings his daughter Daliah over whenever he has her. We enjoy their visits!

Side swiping my flowerbed

May 15, 2014

One day in the winter Greg came home and did his usual 360 to initiate parking his truck. But this time he misjudged the room he had and the icy conditions and ended up side swiping my flowerbed attached to the greenhouse. He said he was real sorry and told me he would fix it and make it better than it was before. He would get wood at work at employee discount and build it real nice...but I guess not hey Greg.

Lost

May 14, 2014

One Sunday afternoon Wendell and Greg decided to go for a walk. They walked up the bank at the back of our property through a hole in the fence onto the crown land. They were gone for awhile. I did not know they had gone walking. I called them for supper, with no response which was weird for Greg. Just before dark they came home...hungry...they told me they were lost walking on the crown land. Everything looks the same back there. They came out on someone's property on cameron road.

Sunfire

May 14, 2014

When ICBC wrote Greg's truck off after the moose incident. Greg had no wheels. So his generous father offered him our beater, the gold, red and burgundy sunfire. When it wasn't stuck in the ditch or missing a front wheel it prooved a fine mode of transportation. At least twice Greg put that little car in the ditch at the bottom, sharp corner at the bottom of Wabi Road. Once was in the morning I get a frantic call to pick him up and drive him to work, heaven forbid he be late for work. After work he demanded that I pull him out, his dad told me not to... I believe Tommy came to the rescue. Almost to West Fraser's employee parking lot the front passenger wheel fell off. The car sat there for days until Greg was able to fix it, Mr. Independant. Not long after Wendell gets a text from Greg, "LOL starting to love the car, Dad!" He discovered how fun a parking lot and the ebrake could be.

Your Mom and Dad's Quilt

May 11, 2014

My good friend Janie sewed this quilt and the cushions. I was on my way to work on them when I had my accident on March 6th. Thanks for being my Guardian Angel.

Maisey's Quilt

May 11, 2014

Maisey did the creative design of this quilt and helped me sew them together.

The Cushions

May 11, 2014

One cushion was for Brooklyn, one for Nathan and yes Greg I kept one for Grandpa and me.

Greg's Clothes

May 11, 2014

It was an honor to be able to help create 2 quilts and 3 cushions from your clothes Greg. It was bittersweet while sewing them; much sadness because you'll never wear them again, but sweet memories as I could picture you wearing them. Although your parents and sibblings were happy to receive such a memorial of you, it is still too sad for them to use and display them. Still missing you lots.
Love and prayers, Grandma!!!

Nathan's Dream

May 8, 2014

One afternoon in April 2014 Nathan had an afternoon nap on the couch. When he awoke he seemed bewildered. He looked at me like he didn't know me. I asked him if he had a good nap. He told me he had a bad dream. I asked him what his dream was about and he said Greg. I asked him what Greg was doing and he replied that Greg was chopping wood. I asked him why it was a bad dream and he said that a monster was eating all the wood and that Greg was getting mad. Nathan was worried that Greg might be scared of the monster too.

Handsoap

May 8, 2014

One day I asked Greg to buy handsoap when he was in town. He came home with a huge bottle of hand sanitizer. Wendell had a little freak out about how hand sanitizer will ruin the sewer system if we used hand sanitizer because it wil kill the bacteria needed. With that said Greg politely told his dad that you don't need to use water when you use hand sanitizer!

Most Prayerful Princess

January 14, 2014

On June 23, 2013 I read to Brooklyn a story about the most prayerful princess. At the end of the story it asks questions about what you are the most thankful for which Brooklyn responded friends, so much like Greg, the next question was what would you like to ask God and Brooklyn stated that she would ask God if Greg was okay up there with Him.

Steak

December 13, 2013

When Greg was 5 or 6 years old we had a barbeque and we gave him his first steak. He chewed it forever and ever I told him to swallow it or spit it out. Later that night when I was tucking him in his bed. I noticed his one cheek was full; he still had a piece of steak in his mouth. Steak never was a favorite for Greg. Brooklyn and Nathan seems to have the same food preferences.

Train Movie

November 28, 2013

Greg made a movie for Brooklyn with his train set, truck and tractor. It started with engine noise and then spinning out, the truck got stuck on the train tracks. Then you see the train going around the track. As the train gets closer to the truck you hear JAWS music. Then the screen goes black and you see the train going around the track and then hear the truck say "Thanks Tractor Guy!"

Greg's Tribute

November 23, 2013

On Greg's one year anniversary we gathered at Camp Emile and later at our farm for a ride, these silly faces are for Greg. Tamara is holding Greg's ashes that we put in an ammunition box that Maisey is painting. We had a nice day. We missed Greg together and shared our memories of him.

Tree

November 21, 2013

Teachers in Rocky Mountain House planted a tree in loving memory of Greg, we walked to it on Thanksgiving weekend 2013. We had a family photo taken there, Greg is the tree.

Greg's Toys

November 21, 2013

Greg was always very particular with his toys. Don't let the babies play with my toys. He loved the Northern Toy Box store and continued to buy toys well into his teens. One day Brooklyn happened to bring his toy quad to Day Care. At the end of the day we discovered that the caregiver thought the quad belonged to another child, a boy and sent it home with him. The boy took it home and broke it and his grandpa threw it in the garbage. Brooklyn had to confess to Greg what had happened to his quad. Greg told her she had to buy him a new one. Time ran out and Brooklyn never did buy Greg a new quad. Greg's toys are put up so they are not played with, but occasssionally I will see Brooklyn and Nathan playing with them, carefully!

Story of my life by Grade 8 Greg

November 6, 2013

I was born on May 19th, 1993 in Rocky Mountain House. My family and I lived in a medium sized house. My mom worked hard. She cleaned the house and helped at the school. My dad was a hard worker (20% of the time), the rest of the time he was playing Mario and watching me grow. My best day at school was when I won the perfect attendance award in the second grade. That same day I was going to move to Tumbler Ridge. When the principal came he gave me a $25 gift certificate for any chapter's book store in Canada. Then we started to move. The best day of my life outside of school was when I got Gambler for my birthday. A dog was my birthday and Christmas wish for three years. I taught him lots of stuff and he taught me lots of stuff too. My Dad always said his name was Gambler because everyday he gambled with his life. Everytime he chewed one of my shoes. Then one day after hockey practice my dad gave me the bad news that my grandpa's grumpy neighbour shot Gambler. I have an assortment of hobbies. Some of them include playing game cube, playing with my dog Kaley, and watching the comedy network on tv. The one thing that I tend to do the most is quadding. I can do lots of things with my quad such as pulling small trailers and doing papa wheelies. Me and my sister go for rides on it too. And thats my list of hobbies. I like school it is a good thing. My favorite subject in school is gym. I enjoy gym because I won't fail it and it helps you get stronger. Jobs require muscles. You also get to play sports and a job in sports means big bucks. And that is why phyed is my favorite subject. This summer I went to my grandparents house. When I was there I went swimming, jumped on the neighbours trampoline and picked berries. Then I came back to Chetwynd and I babysat my little sister. I also did lots of quadding and abit of video game playing. I also had golf lessons. That is how my summer went. When I grow up I want to be a farmer. That way I'll get to be with animals and drive tractors. I also might consider becoming a pipefitter. Its only 8 months of schooling and a 4 year apprenticeship program. My dad does this and makes $36 per hour. These are my future plans. The End

Christmas

November 5, 2013

Christmas 2012 Greg already asked for a helmet cam and work boots for Christmas. I wish I had bought the helmet cam last year when he asked for it so we would have more video of Greg to Watch. Greg loved Christmas and was always the first to have his list ready for Santa!

Hockey

October 30, 2013

In kindergarten Greg played hockey. He was a good little skater, but not too puck hungry. He would often visit with the goalie because he didn't want them to get bored. It was hard for Greg to socialize and play hockey at the same time!

One of Grandpa's Memories

October 27, 2013

Grandpa was remembering the time you went to work with him. It was only suppose to be a couple of hour job, but it ended up being all night. You were bored out of your mind and you & grandpa were hungry because you didn't take a lunch. The saving grace for you was the fact that the consultant had a dog and you spent time playing with the dog. Grandpa covered the dog with his warm flannel shirt and you thought that was pretty nice of grandpa.

Fall Leaves

October 20, 2013

The first fall that we lived in our house at Wabi Estates, I saw Greg outside raking leaves. I never asked him to, but there he was. What a helpful son. I then watched him throw the huge pile of leaves over the fence. He proceeded to move the huge pile of leaves on his quad track. Later he asked me to video him driving through that huge pile of leaves with his quad. It was super cool!

Motorcross Races

October 17, 2013

Today I am remembering Greg's first motorcross race. He was very nervous and that made me nervous too. The quads were last to race, so we waited an agonizing 5 hours. I don't remember if he had a good start at the gate, or if he crashed, but I remember how dirty he was. Being last in a race means you eat alot of dirt, literally. He was also very mad at himself, he thought he would hav edone better than he did. I remember how determined he was to get better and he did but unfortunately so did everyone else.

The Moose

October 8, 2013

One Friday morning Greg instructed me to go outside and look at his truck, I was reluctant and told him it was dark and questioned him as to why, he just repeated his instruction, just go and look. He followed me out I walked around the truck. I noticed a headlight hanging down. I asked what happened and he said two moose came out in front of him, a calf and a cow. He swerved to miss the little one and hit the big one instead. Upon hitting the calf's mom, the calf was really mad and it began charging his truck. The insurance company wrote off Greg's "baby". Mike and I nicknamed him truckless, but Greg did not see any humour in that. He sure missed his truck.

Birthday cakes

October 6, 2013

Looking at photos and seeing the many different birthday cakes I made you, Greg. The look on your face, you loved them!!! So happy I took the time to make you those birthday cakes. One for every year except the last 3 years, I think. Then I made you Boiled Raisin cookies because I could send those through the mail. Those cookies you loved so much, you didn't even share them with your family.

Sandwiches

October 4, 2013

I will never make a sandwich without thinking of Greg. I made his lunches for school and work. When he started at the mill we came up with a deal if he paid his rent of $250/month I would make his lunches. He complained about this, but I took him grocery shopping buying only what was needed for his lunches and he could only agree the deal was fair. And only once I had to threaten no rent no lunch! He liked me to change it up with different deli meats, cheeses and sauces and had specific combinations. As well as 3 different kinds of sandwiches each lunch. One had to be peanut butter and jam! Early on peanut butter and jam was a favorite of Greg's, later it was grilled cheese! Some of Greg's sandwich orders: If toasted it had to be double toasted, not burnt but... ham and swiss with honey mustard, turkey and mozza with mayo, roast beef and cheddar and honey mustard, peanut butter and jam, peanut butter and nutella, also don't be stingy with the condiments, he wanted some with each bite but not too much! I miss making his lunches but take the same pride in making Greg's dad's and sisters'.
