Memories if you and Greg

May 16, 2016

Have thought of Greg often over the years and of all the old crowd that hung out together since retiring from Delta. Greg was somehow the catalyst who brought that group of unique friends into each other's lives besides our common ground working for Delta. It's funny we rarely talked shop because of so much laughter ongoing...and there was always laughter with Greg, it couldn't be helped. As I've looked back over the years, the people I've known as true friends and felt most comfortable being around, Greg heads that list. I miss his wry sideways smile and ever present laugh. He was just one of those special kind of guys who was always there for you no matter what giving more of himself and asking nothing in return but your friendship. Happy birthday my old friend and happy anniversary to you Jolynn. From one of the many distant admirers your passion for each other. Greg is sorely missed and forever remembered by all who loved you both.

I know Greg was with us this past weekend during Shannon's wedding.  It was such a special family time.  His spirit could be felt amongst us.

The Bachelor

November 18, 2012

Greg came to our family get togethers (when he was in town), but I always felt we were a stop on his way to somewhere else.  He was the consumate bachelor, very busy social life.
That all changed after he married Jolynn.  The family get together was now his final destination.  I will always be grateful to Jolynn for bringing Greg back to the family.

4th of July

July 13, 2012

This is a short story of the greatest dog in the world.  Born in July in 1974.

(It intermingles with the way I met Greg Mammoser,
The greatest man I've ever met in the world.
More on that later.)

I, Jolynn Wagoner, always wanted a dog as I was growing up.
Finally, my senior year in High School, on Christmas eve night, my dad got my mom a Dachshund puppy as a surprise present.
It was a surprise to me too, and I thought it was for me, anyway, my mom whom hardly ever drinks - was having a bloody mary so she decieded to name the puppy Vodka.   Continue on another pg...

The Farm

June 13, 2012

Greg spent a lot of time at Dad's farm improving the property.  When the land was first purchased in 1996, the whole family was involved with stringing barbed wire to mark the property lines.  Building bridges across gulleys to allow vehicle access to the property was a job everyone helped with.
This property has been a place for the family to work together and especially for the children to build memories.  I am so grateful for work Greg put into the land.  My family has reaped the benefit of his efforts.

Ants on a Log Shared by Gary Wagoner on 05/15/2012

Greg came up with a unique idea that became a favorite hors d'oeuvre on their Friday Date Nights. When Jo asked how she should help, Greg said "Make some Ants on a Log. Put peanut butter on celery sticks and cover with raisins: ants on a log". Jolynn doesn't cook (or do much in a kitchen)so her first trys weren't too successful, not enough raisins.  According to Greg, you can never have too many ants on your logs.

This delicacy is new to our side of the tree. Is this recipe a Mammoser family exclusive? Or is it a Alabama (or Chicago secret), a Kappa Sig thing? Or was Greg just blowing smoke and Jo believed it? If anyone can shed some light on this culinary treat, we'd like to know!  It is a rather tasty dish, and if you try it just remember, lots of ants!

The Wedding

May 18, 2012

It was a hot summer day as I rushed around getting ready to go to Jolynn and Greg's wedding.  We went to the church with friends, Jim and Linda Callihan, Linda being a agent in the same office as Jolynn and me.

Suddenly it started raining and I mean RAINING.  We were soaked as we walked in to the church.  There was Greg, looking handsome and anxious to see his bride.  Oh, here comes Jolynn, looking so beautiful.....

The ceremony started. Linda and I were having our own private laugh at a person with heavy eye make-up.  Everything went so well and the lovebirds were finally One.  As we stood up getting ready to leave I suddenly realized that my wet dress was stuck to the church pew and now I had varnish on the seat of my dress....yikes!

We all went to the reception anyway and had a wonderful time.  I remember hearing a young relative singing, "The Rose" and seeing the big portrait of Jolynn and Greg displayed for everyone to admire and enjoy.

All this happened a long time ago...twenty five years this summer, but the memory is still special and close in my heart because it was a night of love for one of my very closest friends and her new husband.  It was so wonderful to see them so very happy.........

My favorite memory of Greg is from Logan Martin Lake.  He was probably about 9th grade.  He was paddling around in a rubber raft singing the jingle from the Captain Crunch cereal commercial:  "All ashore that's going ashore.  Buy Captain Crunch at your grocery store.

Greg was usually so reserved and stoic around the family.  It was very funny to catch him with his guard down!  That didn't happen often.

After reading this, I remembered a few seconds during the wedding reception that Carol and Linda acted out the lyrics and wondered what it meant. Now, years later, it makes sense - hope you enjoy! Jolynn

Our Little Log Love Nest

May 9, 2012

I sold Greg this house before we got married, after trying to get him to go with me to look at the property for weeks.  I just wanted to show him the view.  It had a beautiful view of the city of Atlanta.  I could never get him to go until I had to act like I was mad at him.  Then he said OK  and once we got there he didn't want to leave.  I didn't  even think about him wanting to buy the house,  I just wanted him to see the view.  He asked me if I had the key so he could see inside and all I wanted to do is look at the view never thinking that he would want to buy this house to live in.

After multiple offers from others - Greg's offer was accepted and he became the new owner of that fabulous view (and cabin).  Later the next year, on the porch, he asked me to be his bride - not his 'wife' as that was just his way.  (March 25,1987)
