Gregory E. Coleman, age 68, was called into eternal rest on March 18, 2019. He was born on February 19, 1951 in Dayton, Ohio to the late Mary L. Bumpus and Arthur N. Coleman.

Greg entered into the Armed Forces the day before his 18th birthday in 1969. He worked as a Light Weapons Infantryman for the Army and served in the Vietnam War. He was officially discharged from military service in 1975.

Shortly after he left the military, Greg began working for the City of Dayton. He worked in different departments but spent the majority of his years as a truck driver in Waste Collection and Bulk Waste. He retired in 2005 after having a stroke.

Greg was a loving, devoted brother, father, and husband. He loved his family and enjoyed making people laugh. He also enjoyed making sweet potato pies. He would make several at a time and would give them away to friends, family, and coworkers. He took pride in knowing that his pies were being enjoyed and he continued to make them until his health prevented him from doing so.

Greg would pray for any and every person he encountered and would be sure to tell them about the Lord. He loved preaching, teaching, and witnessing. He was a member of The Potter’s House-Dayton International Ministries. He had a gift for encouraging others and would always try to make sure you left his presence with a smile on your face. As his health started to decline, he continued to make an impression on those he met, included those that would transport him to appointments and staff at hospitals during his numerous stays. He was a medical miracle and continued to beat the odds until his final conversation with the Master, in which he exchanged his old body for a new one and traded in his pain and suffering for sweet peace.

Greg leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Faye Coleman; daughters, Christal Charise Russell, Alanna Michelle Russell and Siléncé Lynette Coleman; four brothers, Evangel Bumpus Jr, Thomas Coleman, Samuel Coleman and Robert Bumpus; four sisters, Cynthia (Bruce) Slaton, Belinda Thomas, Pamela Coleman, and Mary Lois Bumpus; godsons, Tyson Day and Joshua Marshall; and a host of nieces, nephews, grandchildren and other relatives and friends.
