Our brother Greg was born in Atlanta, but moved to Tifton, Ga at an early age. He was a longtime resident of Augusta. He attended Valdosta State University. He was in sales for many years with the Yellow Pages, and most recently was a real estate agent for Playground Real Estate Company.
Greg John became a member of the Board of Directors of the Pendleton King Bark Park Foundation fulfilling a longtime interest in the welfare of both dogs and their owners. Greg relished his time at the YMCA’s therapeutic pool, especially the friends he made there at “Katie's Pool.”
Greg was a storyteller. He honed his storytelling skills working in the resort real estate industry in Florida, and in casual conversations or deep seated discussions with friends or newly acquired acquaintances. His intellect was legendary, he maintained a curiosity for history, science, people, and politics examining how the world works. He maintained lifelong friendships with many folks of diverse backgrounds. He was friend to all, a mentor to his nieces, nephews, and other people both young and old. Greg had a deep faith in the Lord.

I am so blessed to have met and swam with you in kattie's Pool.I remember when we first met, your family was going through the passing on of your brother. I grieved and prayed with you for the repose of his soul and had the Franciscan Friar's pray for Michael Joseph ,Greg and his family.A real friend is one who shares his life with you and knows when just to be quiet , listen ,laugh, and be present with you, in the good and bad times of our lives.I believe that it was not by chance of us meeting each other in Katty's pool because the Good Lord Works Through People, and we all need to see the Christ in Everyone we meet . As many of your friends have already said about Greg, he never met a stranger, and always had a story.
Greg, my Friend and Brother in Christ, I am SO HAPPY THAT YOU SHARED THE RENEWAL OF YOUR BAPTISM VOWS IN THE POOL WITH YOUR FRIENDS - SO WITH SAINT FRANCIS OF ASSISI'S BLESSING:
GREG , MAY THE LORD BLESS YOU AND KEEP YOU, AMEN
MAY HIS FACE SHINE ON YOU, AND BE GRACIOUS TO YOU,AMEN
MAY HE LOOK UPON YOU WITH KINDNESS AND GIVE YOU HIS PEACE,
AMEN.
MAY THE LORD BLESS YOU GREG,
+ THE FATHER, AND THE SON, AND THE HOLY SPIRIT.AMEN MY FRIEND!!!
PEACE AND ALL GOOD,
YOUR BROTHER IN CHRIST, SAINT FRANCIS AND SAINT CLARE,
RICH HERDEGEN, Ofs
WE WILL SEE OTHER AGAIN GREG!!!
You have been a good friend and I am glad I inherited you when I married Bart......
He misses you so.
I hope you are enjoying the family that had gone on before. You had become so nostalgic there at the end.....
Take care, Greg. We'll have a lot to catch up on when we all meet back up. Keep the Angel's straight.

I did not know you as well, or as long as, Todd did
nor shared in the bond of love you two enjoyed since you were kids
But what I do know of you is that you believed in, and loved the Lord
and despite what your body endured, you’ve now received your great reward
Where you are, there’s no more pain, and no more tears
there’s no more sadness, and no more fears
Only joy unspeakable and love unending
where your soul is mending, and your body transcending
There’s no need for the sun, moon or stars
The Lord is your light, and the fullness of your heart
There’s no worries about food, clothing, or provision
The Lord is your life, and need is forever in remission
Though I did not know you as well, or as long as, Todd did
nor shared in the bond of love you two enjoyed since you were kids
I do know this, that you will never lack for light, life or love
You will ever be with friends, family, and the best of all, the Lord up above

Don't know how Todd and John picked the perfect song for Greg but they did.

One of my favorite Greg the Great memories that I think of often is from the lake. All the kid cousins would pile into the boat and take turns being pulled around in the intertube. Only the kids with the most guts were brave enough to ride when Uncle Greg was driving. The ride was over after the grand finale 'sling shot' manoeuvre that left us rolling over the top of the water for what felt like a mile. Those were the good ole days :D
I first met Greg when I was 7 years old while attending Church which is the starting point of a life long adventure. I have so any stories about our times together; I could fill a book about Lake Blackshear alone. The most important lesson I learned growing up with Greg was "the measure of a man's station cannot dictate the measure of the man" (I'm pretty sure that came from P.R.) But when we were in a room with guys from Atlanta, "these boys are from Tifton, ha, ha rednecks, ha!" Greg would have them build a fence, have them pay for it, lease the equipment to build it, charge them a licensing fee, rent advertising on the fence wall, and then have them buy us lunch!
Greg was brilliant, funny, and had the business acumen of a shark. To the end. his mind was still sharp as a tack, it's only that his body failed him. So sad to see you go my brother! You will never be forgotten.
