Gustaf Blom was born on February 24, 1861 in Eriksbyn, Ör församling, Älvsborg län, Sweden to Jan Petter Johansson Blom, a soldier, and Lisa Nilsdotter. He was their seventh child and second son. Gustaf was baptized on February 26, with Anders Larsson of Åker and Kristina Johansdotter standing up as godparents.
Gustaf grew up in Eriksbyn with older siblings Sofia, Anders Magnus, Britta Maja, and Kristina as well as younger siblings Carl Otto and Anna Kajsa.
Gustaf and his family resided in Eriksbyn until October 5, 1876, when they left Ör församling altogether. They moved to Vassända-Naglum församling, settling in Ladugårds Rote. Gustaf remained there until his accidental death on August 15, 1881, aged twenty. Interment took place six days later.
