Gwendolyn McBride, 58, of Peoria, departed this life at 11:37 a.m., on Saturday, August 1, 2020. She was born June 25, 1962 in Scott, Mississippi, to Thad More and Virginia Rome. She married John McBride on June 23, 2007. They have shared 30 years of life together.

Surviving are her loving husband, John McBride, her four daughters, Latasha Johnson of Peoria, Ieisha (Antwoinne) Davis of Mesa, Ariz, Joenickle Irby of Peoria and Sparkle (Tiras) Ray of Fayetteville, N.C.; 3 bonus daughters, Chittaun and (James) Walker, Maranda McBride, and Danelle (Fredrick) Sheard all of Peoria, IL; two sisters, Brenda (James) Anderson and Demetra Young both of Peoria; 21 grandchildren; and numerous great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Gwendolyn was preceded in death by her mother Virginia Rome, both of her bonus fathers Thad Moore and John Brown, her nephew Michael Curtis, Jr. and two of her best friends in life, Shirley Baker and Estella Williams.

She was employed as a certified nursing assistant for many years once her children graduated from high school. She then went back to complete her education. She was last employed at Harbor Light Hospice. She was a member of unity house of prayer as an ordained minister. Where she served on the Board of Directors, was the Head of the Usher Board, Head of Praise and Worship Team and Armor Bearer to the First Lady.

A visitation will be held on August 8, 2020 from 9 to 10 a.m. at Unity House of Prayer, 815 NE Perry Ave, Peoria, IL 61603, with a funeral service following at 10 a.m. Pastor Wayne Wickware will officiate the service. Burial will follow at Lutheran Cemetery in Peoria.

Gwen is a special person and it was a pleasure getting know her in the 100% Changed Program. She loved her family and desired that they would have a relationship with God more than anything. She fought the good fight of faith and gave us an example of how to keep fighting. Gwen, you've gotten your forever wings!!
