thurte@aol.comResolution in Memory of Mrs. Gwendolyn Poteat
February 21, 2020
Be it resolved that on February 10, 2020, Mrs. Gwendolyn Poteat gazed at the Pearly Gates, standing on the street of gold, totally amazed! Her heart full of joy, leaving this life, embracing her new eternal life with the Father! She basks in the glory of El Shaddai, God Almighty! Oh, the peace and comfort that comes from being with the Lord. There is nothing greater!
I met Mrs. Poteat while working for City Care’s THE CLUB Afterschool Program. We hit it off right away! Both of us sassy, fun-loving and following our heart’s passion, working with teen moms.I was one of the privileged people who taught life skills class with Gwen at Putnam City Academy and ventured to Arizona with her to Young Lives Teen Moms Christian Camp. Yes, our team flew to camp with five moms and 7 babies.Drove 2 or 3 hours to the campsite in the mountains of Arizona so that our teen moms could have a week to be regular teens for a while during the Summer. It was so rewarding. It’s one of my fondest memories. What I love about Gwen is her can do attitude. We are both creative and love pushing a few limits…teamwork at it’s best!
Even after we no longer worked together in the teen mom ministry, I always considered Gwen my mentor and spiritual mother.I would call Gwen when my career path was changing, when I was considering running for an office in my sorority, when my teen cousin started having children and I was overwhelmed trying to assist her, when I thought I had met someone who could potentially be the One…he wasn’t. Gwen would let me get it all out! Tilt her head to the side and start her sentence with;” Now you know that doesn’t make any sense.”She always shared Godly direction and sound spiritual advice.I’m going to miss having her support, unconditional love and understanding.Gwen always had HOPE!
She believed in breaking generational curses and transforming lives, restoring hope to people while empowering them to change. That’s why I love her so!
Family and friends let us take up Mrs. Gwendolyn Poteat’s charge which is embodied in Psalm 78:4 Tell the next generation the praiseworthy deeds of the Lord, his power, and the wonders he has done.
Lovingly Submitted,
Ms. Terri L. Hurte
