Linda Kay Patterson of Hoover, Alabama passed away peacefully at home after a brave battle with cancer on August 27, 2020. Linda was born in Mobile, AL on August 4, 1951, and had an incredibly sensitive soul with a passion for healing others. She helped countless people ease their physical and often emotional pain through her career as a massage therapist. Though her body was tiny, Linda with her rascally laugh and deep spirit was known as a fiercely independent, tenacious, witty, tough as nails, storytelling, do it her way, smart aleck woman. She had a passion for social justice, animals, the environment, coffee and maple syrup and always reminded anyone in her path that she “did her research”.

Linda was preceded in death by her mother, Jean N. Kern; and by her father, Capt. William R. Kern Jr., and his wife, Mary Lou Kern.

Linda is survived by her daughters Rebecca (Becky) J. Patterson of Hoover, AL and Kay P. Warren, of Daphne, AL, and grandchildren Cole Warren, Cason Warren, and Sidney Patterson. She will also be missed by sister Sherry Keimeg and brothers Charles, Bill, and Terry Kern, her Uncle Jimmy and Aunt Judy and many dear friends she thought of as her chosen family including Stacy, Donna, Rachel, Anne, Ash, Leigh, Nicole, Heather, Lara, Matt, and the "refugees, ranchers, and misfits” she met online.

As a fan of “wine thirty” she will be celebrated in life by friends and family with an online happy hour in the coming days. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Equal Justice Initiative (eji.org) or the Greater Birmingham Alliance to Stop Pollution (gaspgroup.org).
