June 11, 2013

Growing up in Cambodia around the time of the Khmer Rouge was tough for Ngor. We was a trained sergeon but had to hide his profession or the Khmer Rouge would have had him killed. He then was expelled from Phnom Penh and in 1979 and he worked as a doctor at a refugee camp in Thailand. before that time, his wife died giving birth to their child. On the 30th of August, he moved to the United States. He wrote a book about his life during the Khmer Rouge. Then later in his life, he took on the role as Dith Pran in "The Killing Fields" and earned a Golden Globe Award and an Academy Award. He created the Dr. Haing S. Ngor Foundation to raise money for Cambodian Orphans and rebuild the country. Sadly he was murderd by a gang in from of his California home.
