The Life of Haing Ngor

Haing Ngor, born March 22nd 1940, was known for his excellent performance in the movie "The Killing Fields" portraying Dith Pran. Dr. Ngor was born in Cambodia and survived the Cambodian holocaust. The way he survived was by hiding that he was educated since all educated people were killed under the Khmer Rouge. After when the regime fell, Haing Ngor traveled to Thailand and worked as a doctor before he went to the United States in 1980. After when the "Killing Fields" released, Mr.Ngor wrote the memoir, "Haing Ngor: A Cambodian Odyssey", in which it described the life under the Khmer Rouge.On February 25th 1996, Haing Ngor was shot and killed outside his apartment in Los Angeles, California, during a robbery by members of a street gang. Family and friends of Haing Ngor believe that his death was revenge for his opposition of the Khmer Rouge.Haing S. Ngor brought awareness to the people about the past of Cambodia and wanted to make a difference. He was a great man and he will never be forgotten.
