Harold Landers Chappelear “Lanny” March 17, 1939 - December 4, 2018

Harold Landers Chappelear “Lanny” passed away peacefully at Birmingham Nursing and Rehabilitation Center East on December 4, 2018, after a long battle with illness. He was born and raised in Birmingham, AL. After serving in the United States Navy during the onset of the Vietnam War, he returned home where he married and raised his family in Hoover, AL.

He retired from Chappelear and Associates after 60 years as owner. Lanny had an amazing talent as a design artist and painter. His most notable work can be seen at the old Birmingham Library. He was commissioned to save the beautiful painting on the ceilings that, after many years, was fading away. He was also well known for his murals inside Children’s Hospital as well as his trial drawings during the trials of Frank Cherry and Thomas Blanton for the 16th Street Baptist Church bombing, among a few. He will be greatly remembered for his constant readiness to help and mentor others, his wonderful sense of humor and his infectious laugh and his talent for beautiful artwork.

Lanny is preceded in death by his parents Harold D. Chappelear, Fleeta Holt Dodderar and his brother Harry Chappelear. Survived by his wife Linda Osborne Chappelear, daughter Tracey Parker (Eddie), his beloved grandchildren, Corey Landers Parker and Brittany Lynn Gamanche (Dylan), nephew Scott Chappelear (Tinamarie), Brother Gary Chappelear (Tammy), nephew Cabel Chappelear. He also leaves behind his extended family whom he loved dearly, nephews Timmy Osborne (Kim), Philip Osborne (Cindy), Danny Osborne (Lori), Mike Osborne (Myra), nieces Debbie Osbornè, Terri McElwee (Kieth).

A Celebration of Life will be held on March 17, 2019 on his birthday In Tanner, Alabama. In Lieu of flowers memorial donations can be made to Birmingham Library.
