Harold Landers Chappelear “Lanny” passed away peacefully at Birmingham Nursing and Rehabilitation Center East on December 4, 2018, after a long battle with illness. He was born and raised in Birmingham, AL. After serving in the United States Navy during the onset of the Vietnam War, he returned home where he married and raised his family in Hoover, AL.

He was also well known for his murals inside Children’s Hospital as well as his trial drawings during the trials of Frank Cherry and Thomas Blanton for the 16th Street Baptist Church bombing, among a few. He will be greatly remembered for his constant readiness to help and mentor others, his wonderful sense of humor and his infectious laugh and his talent for beautiful artwork.

Lanny is preceded in death by his parents Harold D. Chappelear, Fleeta Holt Dodderar and his brother Harry Chappelear. Survived by his wife Linda Osborne Chappelear, daughter Tracey Parker (Eddie), his beloved grandchildren, Corey Landers Parker and Brittany Lynn Gamanche (Dylan), nephew Scott Chappelear (Tinamarie), Brother Gary Chappelear (Tammy), nephew Cabel Chappelear. Linda, my heart goes out to Tracy and you. Lanny was a sweet man and I so appreciate the sketch he did of me at Lydia's house. My daughter has it hanging in her home. So talented. You will be in prayers and thoughts. Praying for god's comfort and your strength. Martha worth.
