Dr. Harold L. Brown DVM, age 79, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 29th, 2023. He was born in Greene County Ohio on the 27th of March, 1944. He was a 1962 graduate of Xenia High School and attended Ohio State University. After serving in the US Army, including duty in Vietnam where he was awarded a Bronze Star Medal, he returned to Ohio State University and studied veterinary medicine, graduating with a DVM in the class of 1973.

He was a member of the Ohio Veterinarian Medical Society and was in private practice in New Concord, Ohio from 1973 until 1997 and then employed at Veterinary Associates Animal Hospital in Xenia through 2004. He served as Chief Deputy of Greene County Animal Control beginning in January 2005 until his retirement in September of 2016. Well loved and respected by his family, peers and associates, his love of animals was evident in his lifetime pursuits. He volunteered for many years at county fairs in both Greene and Clinton Counties, assuring the safety and well-being of the animals brought to the fairs. In addition, over the past 17 years he volunteered countless hours at the Humane Society of Green County where he was instrumental in creating and maintaining the spay and neuter clinic for cats, treating over 11,000 cats. He also volunteered at the Clinton County Humane Society in the same capacity. In retirement, as a member of The Ohio Thoroughbred Breeding Program, he was able to devote more time to a lifelong passion for the breeding and raising of thoroughbred race horses, while continuing to volunteer his time for the care of animals in southwest Ohio.

He is survived by his wife of 21 years, Janet Jensen, a son and three daughters, Lt. Col. (Retired) Andrew (Ann) Brown; Dr. Julie Brown Rockefeller, Ph.D. (William-Lt. Col. Retired) of Weston, FL; Christin Martindale ( Nathan) of Xenia, OH; and Jaime Hart (Aaron) of Las Vegas, NV; 11 grandchildren; Paige 27, James 25, Jackson 20, Gavin 19, Garrison 17, Alexis-Mi-so 16, Mackenzie 16, Ava 16, Emily 14, Xavier 6,

and Oaklyn 3; 4 step-grandchildren; Ashton 12, Mila 10, Jensen 8, and Evan 5. Also surviving is his sister-in-law Kim Brown of Indianapolis, IN and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a son, Eric Jensen, his parents, four brothers and four sisters.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, December 16th , 2023 at Jamestown Friends Meeting, 48 E. Washington St., Jamestown, OH 45355.
