Gone but not Forgotten

February 16, 2013

I can remember one day when i was at my grandfather's house and my aunt linda had given him his pill to take which had a very bad taste to it, so she had given him the pill and continued on doing what she was doing. After a minute or so she came back and asked him " dad is the pill gone?" he simply replyed "it's gone but not forgotten." i would never forget that moment i laughed so much but like he said he's gone but not forgotten and never will be forgotten.

Saturday Afternoons

February 4, 2013

I have so many fond stories about my pepere ward i could go on for days. But what sticks out in my head the most were all the saturday's i spent with grampy over the years. As a youngster i was at Pepere's everyday before i was in school it was a 10 hour day for grampy taking care of me. I would venture over to his house at the early hours of 6:30 AM to 7:30 AM and spend the whole day with him until my mother or father would come get me and ofcourse i would be kicking and screaming not wanting to go home. When i started school it was shorter days as i could only go over after school which i wasnt to pleased of because i loved spending time with grampy. But Saturday's were always my favorite day to spend with Grampy because we had a fun filled day ahead of us. First like usual i would come over early and have breakfest with Pepere. fried bologna and eggs with some toast either with jam or cheesewiz or the odd time bacon & eggs.Once we ate it was off to the barn to collect the eggs (something i loved doing). After collecting the eggs and feeding the chickens and my uncle Art's horse we would then feed the one of many cats who lived in the barn, even though they were wild cats and not pets , my grandfather would always buy cat food to feed them. After all that was done i would grab the wheelbarrow and head into the field with grampy. He would have his big cutting Sight and would cut fresh grass for the horse we would cut 2 to 3 wheelbarrows full then feed it to the horse. After all that was done pepere would grab his old blue bike and taking me for a bike ride to the Rio Grande cross and back home. Often there was alittle boy at the cornor who would be outside and we would often spend a hour or two at the driveway so i could play with him.The little boy moved not long after and i never seen him again until the day of my grandfathers funeral when he walked into the funeral home with his mother. After he would let me play trucks with Jason we would then head back to grampys and have lunch usually a sandwich or left overs from breakfest. Then at 1pm we would sit down to watch Atlantic Grand-Prix Wrestling. My grandfather and i were huge wrestling fans and we would sit there and watch the likes of Leo Burke,The Beast,Cubban Assassin,Bobby Kay,Big Stephen Pettipas and more.Once wrestling was over it was back outside to mess around in the garden either watering the veggies or getting water at the river. Then at 6pm my grandfather would always watch the evening news which i hated because it was the one point of the day i would get bored so i would often sit at the kitchen table and play with my grandfathers tape recorder.I would sit and tape myself pretending i was a radio annoucer and talk about news, sports and often the weather.I would interview my grandfather asking what he though of the roads.. he always had a saying .. slippery than a greased pig. Once the news was done he would call out terry katts and dog is coming on. That was our favorite show we both loved it. After Katts and Dog it was time for me to go home not because i wanted to or that my grandfather wanted me to go but my parents wanted me home. So i would say ill see you tomorrow pepere and always ask him.. Are you going to the dance in st anne tomorrow night?? I never wanted him to go because i would miss him. I have so many other great stories i could share but our saturdays were my favorite. Im going to hold them memories forever and saturdays just wont be the same.. Love you Pepere
