Dad and His Truck

January 30, 2013

Dad loved his truck.  He bought it new and drove it for I don't know how many decades.  This was a very familiar sight!  Some in the family (OK, me) were less than enthusiastic when needing to be picked up in this vehicle.  However, I cannot tell you how many times Dad and his truck came to save the day....moving furniture, transporting me and my luggage to the airport, picking up my dog, Moose....the list goes on and on.  Now of course I would give anything to see him pull up in this old truck.

Surprise at Harbor Pub

January 28, 2013

I have many fond memories of Uncle Harry (my mom, Helen, was Aunty Ruth's older sister), but one that comes to mind is from a vacation in Hawaii in 2003.  I'd gone there with my dad, Gordon Hunter and my sisters, if I recall right, for a break from the rain in Vancouver.  It was pretty much an annual November vacation at the time, and we always stayed in a rented condo in the Ilikai at the east end of Waikiki.  We had mentioned our planned trip to Aunty Ruth several weeks before.

As we sat having lunch in one of our usual haunts near the Ilikai, the Harbor Pub across from the Ala Wai Yacht Harbor, who should walk in but Uncle Harry and Aunty Ruth.  They weren't surprised to see us, but we were sure surprised and delighted to see them.  We were able to spend some very enjoyable time together in Hawaii that trip.  I'm posting a couple of photos from that trip, including this one from a hike up Diamondhead.

Harry and I were married for 54 years.  Everything we did, we did together.  Now I'm finding the "I" part to be very lonely--I've lost a part of me.  Harry was a wonderful husband, my true friend, a great father and grandfather.  We all will miss his strength, his advice, his kindness and wisdom--but most of all his love and support.  Harry, I will love you always.

Love, Ruth
