This memorial website was created in memory of our loved one, Harry George, 85 years old, beloved husband of 36 years of Nancy Packard George, died August 3, 2020. He was born in Oakmont, PA. on February 21, 1935 to the late Harry Mike George and Virginia Wadsworth.  He is survived by his wife and five children; Diane (Lloyd) Moore, Cheryl Dudek, Justin (Amy) Bales, Meghan (Thomas) O’Brien, and Nathan (Kara) Bales; 16 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren. He was the loved and respected brother of eight siblings. Many will remember Harry for his “many lives”.

His many elaborate stories kept everyone entertained. He definitely worked hard and played hard. Harry was always a good provider and his many occupations included: garbage collector, actor, preacher, carpenter, electrician, musician, chef, contractor, oil tycoon, public speaker, writer, fisherman, horseman, inventor, entrepreneur and always celebrated two birthdays. Harry was always adventurous, fearless and generous - from motorcycle gangs to Dom Perignon for all!  In most recent years, he enjoyed sitting on his front porch with Nancy, his cigarettes, his books and a glass of scotch.

Harry was a decorated veteran of the United States Marine Corps serving during the Korean War.

A military funeral / memorial will be planned for a later date.

In lieu of flowers please make a donation in Harry’s honor to:  The Gary Sinise Foundation (donate.garysinisefoundation.org), The Blinded Veterans (bva.networkforgood.com), or The Wounded Warrior Project (support.woundedwariorproject.org)

May the road rise up to meet you.
May the wind be always at your back.
May the sun shine warm upon your face,
The rains fall soft upon your fields.
And until we meet again,
may God hold you in the palm of His hand.

I still remember the day I met him.... some of the fine details may be gone but I won’t forget his presence. He was intimidating but in a non-threatening way. The way that commands attention. He could walk into any room of people and it was like everyone knew he was there. I’ll never forget that day and how he lifted me from the floor while I held on to just his index finger. First me, then Nathan, then Nathan and me like some kind of Hercules reincarnate. I remember my mom’s glow. She was illuminated with happiness. He brought a lot of change into my life and I’ll admit it wasn’t always welcome. Some I wouldn’t see any value in until I outgrew naïveté. He gave me life experiences that helped make me the man I am & the father I am & the husband I am. Humility will be the biggest gift he ever gave me and he taught it by example. I think I was one of few to see the depth of his heart. One of few to see his core spirit. We made our amends that day and it was then that I truly knew him. I am very fortunate to have had a man like him in my life and to be able to pass on some of his wisdom. I will never forget him.

Harry always saw the best in people and encouraged them to do for themselves. He loved family friends and animals.  Loved his wife and friends and country. He was brave and encouraged others to dream their dreams. The world will fondly remember and miss Harry.  Your sister in law Diane and I know you and my dear hubby are together again.

The thing I love most about Harry is his stories! I would sit and get insights and wisdom from him during Family get togethers on Thanksgiving. Philosophy, Religion, Outdoor Adventures, and all the mysteries of Life! He has a calmness and a wisdom about him.  A Leader among men! Very kind too all, especially the ladies; I know this because when he came to my wedding he said, "Andy you got a good woman there!"  So sad to have Uncle Harry go

Harry, you made me see tough times as though it was a bump on the road. Just smile and go on. Strong and funny Harry, you will be forever missed. Loved every minute I got to spend time with you.
My husband got you when you told him that you met samurai in Japan!

Georgie and I will forever remember Harry for his laughter, stories and welcoming smile. He welcomed us as extended family members and our “surrogate father”. We were included in many gatherings and social events and will cherish those memories. Harry you will be missed and no one can take your place.
Love,
Georgie and Joe

Harry lived a big life. The best storyteller, family historian, and sometimes snake oil sales person (ha ha).  He lived life to the fullest - there was never a dull moment when he was around.  A proud Marine with a great love for his country and family, he will be sorely missed.  I'll especially miss his big smile and even bigger heart. Many times throughout my life Harry was there to be the friend I needed and I will never forget that. Some people you think will be around forever and sometimes I thought Harry was that guy! Thanks for the memories and the Dom perignon!

So sorry to hear of Harry's passing. He was quite a character.  At first I thought that Harry was a flirt and quite demanding of a waitress at Ditka's in Chicago. I have since realized that even though he may have remained a flirt, he was so nice and charming, and funny. He will be missed.
Love,
Janet Balkan

This is really hard to do.
Harry George was one of a kind. He was a wonderful man.So caring, Oh so funny, so loving, and he really would do anything for you if he could. He would go above and beyond. I have so many wonderful memories of him. I have letters, pictures, notes, etc that I can look back on. He was a brother-in-law that you were proud to talk about. I think everyone loved him. NOW ——-let’s talk about his stories. I don’t care what story you might tell him, he had a bigger and better story to tell. He loved to tell his stories and let me be honest here, they were not short stories. But I loved hearing them. I think Harry would want us to just remember the good times we all had with him. And that’s what I intend to do. But, he will be missed. I love you Harry George. Rest In Peace. ❤️❤️

Harry was a person who made you laugh.  His stories are cherished.  I was never quite sure what was a good story and what really happened.  I have a feeling, knowing Harry, that the stories were mostly true.  I just couldn’t believe so much could have happened to one person.  However, I have been around several of those events and they really happened!   You knew you were going to be laughing by the time you left Nancy and Harry’s!He was unique; he was special; he will be missed.
