As I said in my tribute, Dad was a man of few words.  When I'd come home for the weekend from college, most often I'd just get a hello on Friday and a goodbye on Sunday.  This was his way and I never felt slighted.
One weekend, I related what happened on the previous weekend I'd come home.  I was driving back to college and the traffic on the thruway was backed up terribly.  I noticed my gas gauge was on empty and prayed I'd get to the next exit and be able to get gas in time.  Fortunately I did and all was well.  That Sunday when I was leaving, Dad came up to me at the door and handed me a five dollar bill.  He said get some gas before you get on the thruway.  That nearly floored me.  It may not seem much to someone else, but it meant everything to me.
