Harvey James (HJ) Jackson, Jr., 81, of Apex passed away on March 10, 2011. Mr. Jackson was born on May 19, 1929, to Harvey James Jackson, Sr. and Esther Suitt Jackson in Oxford, NC. He was preceded in death by his parents and his daughter Sharon Jackson. He is survived by his two daughters, Cindy Jackson Rice and husband Steve and Susan Jackson, all of Morrisville, NC. He is also survived by a brother and sister-in-law, Roy Taylor and Martha Jackson, two grandchildren, two great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
 
Mr. Jackson served as a U.S. Army drill instructor during the Korean War. He was discharged with the rank of Staff Sergeant. He graduated from N.C. State University with a degree in Industrial Engineering, where he was a member of TKE Fraternity, played several interfraternity sports, was the assistant sports editor for The Techician,
and played bass horn in both the “Red Coat” and Army ROTC marching bands. He was employed by Sperry Rand in Durham for several years and retired from IBM Corporation after 25 years of service.
 
Mr. Jackson was an avid NCSU Wolfpack fan and enjoyed attending football, basketball and bowl games, as well as travel to the NC coast, Las Vegas, Los Angeles and Hawaii. Funeral services will be conducted at 4:00 PM, Sunday, March 13, 2011 in the Eakes Funeral Chapel in Oxford, 106 Clement Ave., Oxford, NC 27565. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery.
 
Visitation 2:30-3:45PM Sunday, March 13th prior to the funeral service at the Eakes Funeral Home in Oxford  and at other times at the home of Taylor and Martha Jackson, 412 High Street, Oxford, NC 27565.
