University Races
Harvey and I attended Simon Fraser University between the years 1986 and 1991. We also worked together, and with the same security company. During those years we were rarely seen apart and many would joke about us being "joined at the hip". If you saw either of us, the other was not far behind.
Before SFU outlawed the practice, we used to line up outside the front of the SFU Library at 5:45am waiting for the doors to open so we would get the first choice on those prime study rooms which were enclosed and faced the Mall. These were prime study locations and after Harvey and I started to line up before the doors opened, it did not take long until there were a dozen or more students doing the same thing. Even the security guards seemed to look forward to this mad-rush by students to get the best study room. Once the doors opened it was like a horse race. Everyone running all-out body-checking and finding the shortest route possible as we leaped up 2-3 steps at a time! I would not have been suprised if the security guards placed bets on us. Although Harvey and I were often out front, we still raced against each other to get the "prime" seat in any given room. It was a blast to start every morning this way!
Once I get around to moving all my old journals into my new journal database, I will try to update this site with some of the many stories and adventures I shared with Harvey. Miss you big time Harvey. :)
