Forgot to mention, I planted a yellow rose bush and it's really great to see it blossoming now just in time for your anniversary. Yellow was your favourite colour.

Dear Mum,
Today is two years since you left us. I know that you are enjoying your heavenly home and I can imagine you smiling! I light a candle in your memory as it will always be for a blessing! On a visit to London in 2014, I was happy to meet my cousin, Dawn, for the first time and to reconnect with Aunt Rae. It was a lovely reunion. I was amazed that Aunt Rae remembered my birth date and I believe that demonstrated the closeness of the Thompson siblings. 

I saw her again at Dawn's wedding in 2019, and after her passing Sandra and I were reminiscing about how happy she was at that event and how she enjoyed having so much family around her. 

My wife, Yvonne and I, offer our sincere condolences to Sandra, Horace, Phillipia and Dawn, and her grandchildren.

I sincerely believe she is at peace now and enjoying her reunion with her family who have gone on before her.

One of my fondest memories of Mum is when she encouraged me to always continue with my art. She said “Sandra you are talented, never stop drawing!” I have held on to these words for years as encouragement for me to continue painting and drawing!! I am thankful that she recognized the gift in me even when I didn’t. Thank you Mum! May your memory be for a blessing.

I have nothing but fond memories of dear Aunt Rae.

When our Son Sadiki was born at St Joseph’s Hospital 42 years ago, Errol and I were blessed to have Aunt Rae as his paediatric nurse. Sadiki, a 9 pounder was never satisfied with the 4 ozs of milk given to newborns. He would make this known by crying for more. The other nurse (knowing of the family connection) would tell Aunt Rae to attend to her family. That she did with all tenderness and love.

When Aunt Rae lived at the Nurses Quarters at the University Hospital I visited her once per month until she migrated to the UK.

To know her was to love her. I admire her quiet strength and peaceful manner. She held a special place in my heart and I will cherish the memories I have of her.

Errol has expressed how kind and caring she was to everyone she met and he also holds fond memories of her.

May her children rise up and call her blessed.

May she rest in eternal peace

Grandma you were always filled with love and Joy, throughout my whole life I don’t recall a time seeing you without a smile on your face. Despite what was going on in your life. Your advice will always stumble across my mind and bring laughter but also truth, you would say things such as “Lukie, yuh must look after di girls!” And “Lukie, you must look after ya self - ya hear!”. My response would be “of course Grandma!” LOL.

You brought the kind of laughter that would tickle our stomachs, so to see you leave us is heartbreaking but knowing what you left behind is empowering! Such an amazing family. Thank you Grandma may you Rest In Paradise! Love from Luke. 

My dear sweet Mum, we may not have spent very many years together , but for the few years that we were together , we had many laughs, you had a wonderful sense of humour despite the very difficult life you had. You brought me into this world and I always remember how much you love and cared about other People outside of your nursing duties. You were a very simple lady and never complained about not having “things”. I regret not being in England to spend time with you in your final years. Rest In Peace my darling Mum….I will see you again !!

Mum, your soft spoken words will forever be echoing in my mind, your kindness and simplicity is something we can all learn from. I didn't want you to go but you are now FREE at last and No more Pain. I left you sleeping which is the memory that will stay with me forever.

When I met Aunt Rae for the very first time, I knew that she really was my flesh and blood - those big Thompson eyes!

I never got the occasion or much opportunity to spend meaningful time time with her, but what I always remember was her soft spoken and kind nature. I also knew that my father, Manley, loved his little sister dearly.

I know that through her children, her spirit will shine, because that is the nature of life. It is at times like these that I hope that I will not miss out on opportunities to tell those that I love, and that I should love, that I indeed love them.

Rest in peace dear Aunt Rae as you unite now with all the other members of the family from which you came.

Aunt Rae was a calm and loving person. She always made me feel special. I use to visit her at UHWI with daddy sometimes and it was so cool seeing the dynamics between them. She was to my surprise the nurse on duty when I took my baby boy to the hospital for an infection. I felt so much more at ease knowing my aunt was there. She took very good care.
I regret not spending enough time with her and am happy however that I got to speak to her in recent times through FaceTime.
