The Journey Begins
OnOctober 30, 1986 we found out that Heather had a heart murmur. None was detected til now. She wasn't gaining any weight she was still the same birth weight, Knew something was up. Took her to St. V's in G.B. From there they took her by ambulance to children's hospital in Milwaukee. We were not able to go down to see her til on the 31st. That was one of the hardest things to do was to leave her and to see her with all tubes in her. She had a heart catherization and was diagnosed with single ventricle, coarctation of the aorta and transposition of the great vessels. She needed immediate open heart surgery. They opened up her aorta and put a banding on her pulmonary artery to prevent a blood being pumped into her lungs at a high rate of pressure so it wouldn't cause any lung damage. Heather was operated on Monday, Nov. 3rd. She was released about 7 to 10 days later. Diuretics and digoxin medication started. Took her home and loved her just like any other baby. She was so precious to me. I loved her so.
