This memorial website was created in memory of our loved one, Helen Xiang . We will remember her forever.
“Xiao Xiang”, “Xiang”, what a familiar and beloved name to the classmates of Geography 1989! In the hearts of our friends and classmates, you are always “my girl from Sichuan”; you are always as beautiful as the lilies, sunny, open-hearted, affectionate and full of inspiration.
Memories of the time we spent together in Yanyuan are still fresh and vivid, although it has been 30 years since we left. We remember you bringing us amazing gifts every time you came back from winter vacation. There were the wonderful homemade delicacies - fermented bean curd, chili sauces, and spices for the hot pot. We remember your telling us stories from your outdoor trips that made us laugh so hard. You were a great comedian; your stories were exotic and funny and your shows were never boring. When you won a game of playing cards, you danced to your victories; when you lost, you protested about injustice and tried to right the wrongs. We loved your hearty and guileless expressions. Sometimes you were stubborn and somewhat dominant, and we did not quite know how to deal with you. Yes, we understand that you were the youngest child of your parents and “the pearl in their palm”. You were attractive, intelligent, academically brilliant and everyone loved you.
As someone from Sichuan, well known as the “heavenly country”, you had a special taste and appreciation for delicate food. Among all our classmates, “the Connoisseur” title rightfully belonged to you. Each time we gathered, you volunteered to help find restaurants and order dishes. Your choices never disappointed us. Many of the excellent dishes we tried for the first time were actually recommended by you.
God gifted you with angelic beauty and you showed your beauty to the fullest. Everywhere you went, you brought beauty that pleases the eyes and touches the hearts. Those who visited our dorm always mentioned you as the beautiful girl from Sichuan, as if they did not know your name. It made us so proud as your friends and roommates.
You were a diligent student. After graduation, you got your MBA degree from McMaster University and worked at world-renowned companies like Ernst & Young, Siemens and Nortel. You raised children while you worked and earned your CPA license.
You were a loving mom, having raised two wonderful daughters who are just as beautiful and well-taught. Your love and tender care will be a lifetime treasure for them, as they have always been your heart’s satisfaction and pride.
As short as it may seem, your fifty-two years of life has been decorated with many beautiful colors. You spent your beautiful youth in Yanyuan, our college campus. You left your athletic impressions on the tennis court, your agile flight over the snowy mountains, sweet aroma in the cooking kitchen, and your intellectual elegance in the guest gathering venues.
We so miss your lovely presence in our gatherings, and your contagious laughter on trips we traveled together. You worked hard for the family, and gave abundant love to your beautiful and smart daughters.
On the morning of June 23, 2020, you left us like a beautiful star passing across the skyline. Shock, grief, sorrow and tears overwhelm the hearts of our friends and classmates. We cannot accept the fact that our beautiful Xiao Xiang has left so suddenly.
Even in the midst of our sorrow, we are thankful that we met you and spent a few decades of lives with you, sharing together both joys and tears. We are thankful for your rich life experiences, and the beautiful memories you have left us.
Dear Xiaoxiang, today we have come to say Good-Bye, and to walk this final journey on earth with you. May you be surrounded by our love, thought and care.
From now on, may your path be covered with lovely roses, drenched in lavish sunshine, and the light of love always shine on your beautiful soul!
