Obituary
Passed away on October 17, 2017 at the age of 92. Born to the Rev. an Mrs. Philip T. Gorman in Williamsburg, Pa. She graduated from Penn Hall Jr. College, Chambersburg, Pa. and received a B.M. from Westminster Choir College, Princeton, NJ. She was a member of the world famous Westminster Choir, singing at Carnegie Hall and touring throughout the United States. She married William Frank Guthrie in 1948, and had three children, William Fleming Guthrie, Linda G. Carson, and Steven M. Guthrie. In 1959, as an alumnus of Westminster, she and her husband toured Africa under the auspices of the US Cultural Exchange Program. With her husband, they served at numerous colleges and churches including: Carroll College, Waukesha, WI, TCU, Ft, Worth, TX, Broadway Meth. Church in Indianapolis, IN. , Country Club Christian Church, Kansas City, MO, Ridglea Christian Church, White Rock Meth Church, East Dallas Christian Church, Dallas, TX, and First Christian in Tulsa, OK. When her children were grown she became a legal secretary for many years in Dallas, Tulsa and Arlington.
She is preceded in death by her husband, her parents, a brother - Philip Wm., and 2 sisters, Jeanne M. Pratt and Ruth Lank. She is survived by her 3 children and their spouses Barbara Guthrie, H. Andy Carson and Sandi Guthrie, her grandchildren, Elizabeth Smith, Brooke Meier, Laura Kahn, Jennifer G. Best, Michael Guthrie, Sara G. McBride, and 8 great-grandchildren. She has requested no memorial service and memorials may be made to Suncreek Methodist Church, Allen, TX or New Century Hospice.
On Oct 30th, at 3PM there will be a service for Helen to be held at the outdoor auditorium at Dallas Fort Worth Memorial Cemetery at Mountain Creek. This will be taped and live streamed via facebook also for those out-of-town who wish to join into the celebration of her life.
