Helen Holmes Hicks, 81, a longtime resident of Granville County passed away at the home of her daughter, Monday, February 11th 2013.

A native of Franklin County, the widow of William Taylor Hicks and the daughter of the late Bruce and Ina Evans Holmes. She was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church and worked at Lee Dyeing in Butner for over twenty years and later worked at Avnet.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 PM Thursday, February 14th 2013 at Mt. Zion Baptist Church by Rev. Keith Williams and Rev. Eddie Mauldin. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Surviving are four daughters, Robbie Manning of Providence, Lynn Moss of Jacksonville, Fla., Betsy Edwards of Myrtle Beach, SC, Sherri Wheeler of Oxford, a sister, Edith Pope of Creedmoor, two granddaughters, three grandsons, one great granddaughter, three great grandsons, longtime companion Maurice T. Whitfield  and sister-in-law Elna Holmes. She was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Carlton Holmes.

Flowers accepted and memorials may be made to Mt. Zion Baptist Church, 1171 Highway 158, Oxford, NC 27565.

Visitation 12:30-2:00 PM Thursday, February 14th 2013 prior to the service in the Fellowship Hall of Mt. Zion Baptist Church and at other times at the home of her daughter, Sherri Wheeler.

Eakes Funeral Home in Oxford is assisting the Hicks family.

Helen we have missed you& do think about you alot.I know you arehaving the time of your life an in no more pain. I want to say happy birthday to you on Friday Miss Valentine. I know Pop misses you also. I haven't been to see Pop often because of my health but Sheri is doing a good job. I know you told her to. Helen we love & miss you but we will see you one day. Keep an eye out. Rhonda & Kelsey miss you too. love you one year tribute

It made me very sad to hear of Helen's death. She was a very sweet person and I remember her as being a good friend to my cousin, Dorothy Jones. You all are in our thought's and prayer's as you face the day's ahead without Helen! God Bless You All!

Thank you all for your prayers, kind words, calls, and visits. We were Blessed to have Mama with us as long as we did. She was a gentle soul and as her health failed, she fought hard to stay strong...Please continue to pray for us as we face tomorrow without her.                Sherri

So sorry for your loss, Ms. Helen was a kind and gentle person. I will miss dropping in to visit,and seeing her with her roses in the blooming season. Sherri, we were so sorry to hear of Helen's passing. Your mother was the nicest step-mother a person could ever have. I was so glad that she was there for my Dad and will always remember her fondly. We will keep you, Robbie, Lynn, Betsy, and the rest of your family in our thoughts and prayers. Love, Barbara, Scott, and Jimmy

Oh Sherri I'm so sorry to hear of your Moms' passing. I know it's been a while since I've seen her but, the memories I have of her makes me smile. She was such a sweet and caring lady. Sherri she loved you oh so much. I know her loving memories will be with you always!! Ya'll will be in my thoughts and prayers.
