Helen Marie Koester was born December 23, 1916 in Cuming County, north of Dodge, to John J. and Magdalena (Parr) Koester. She grew up on a farm north of Dodge, attended Sacred Heart School at Olean, and worked as a hired girl for neighboring families. On May 3, 1939, Helen married Leonard Tingelhoff at St. Leo’s Catholic Church in Snyder. The couple farmed southeast of West Point, retiring to West Point in 1970. Helen moved to Scribner in March 1973 and to Elkhorn Valley Villa in 2006. Helen was a member of St. Lawrence Catholic Church and Guild. She enjoyed making afghans, embroidering, and sewing. She loved working in her garden, especially tending to her flowers. Survivors include her daughters Jeanne (Dennis) Baumert of Scribner and Lois (Gary) Kinney of Hartington; grandchildren Deb (Mike) Kelly, Mike (Lori) Baumert, Susie (Don) Dostal, Karen (Mark) Carson, Sharon (Rick) Gish, Jeff (Becky) Kinney, Kathy (Rob) Miller, Ann (Doug) Burch, Brian Kinney, and Mark (Erin) Kinney; 28 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. Helen is preceded in death by her husband Leonard in 1971; parents; brothers John, Joseph, Bernard, Lawrence, and William Koester; and sisters Katherine Sorensen, Sophie Krotas, Josephine Van Ditte, and Ann, Theresa, and Delores Koester.
