His Life

Mr. Henry L. Benson was born in Citronelle, Alabama on March 29, 1946 to the late Mrs. Helen P. Land and the late Mr. Robert McCree.

He confessed Christ at an early age joining Mt. Hebron Baptist Church in Mobile, AL.

He was preceded in death by both parents, and one brother, Mr. Oscar Evans.

He is survived by brothers: Rev. Lou (Marilyn) Benson of Alexander City, AL, Lorenzo Benson of Chicago, IL, James McCree of Citronelle, AL, William (Jonita) McCree of Palm Coast, FL, Glenn (Quincy) McCree of Citronelle, AL, Charles (Donna) of Citronelle, ALandĀ  Ronald (Dessie) of Mobile, AL. One sister, Arzetta J. Morris of Waynesboro, MS. He is also survived by a host nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Mr. Benson resided in Montgomery for many years. After graduating form high school, he attended Bishop State Jr. College in Mobile and graduated from Alabama State University with a Bachelor's in Criminal Justice and Master's in Social Work. He received an honorable discharge from the US Army after three years of distinguished service and then joined the Air Force Reserve.

Mr. BensonĀ  worked as a salesman at Otasco for many years. He also worked with the Alabama Department of Corrections at Bullock County and Kilby Prisons where he rose to the rank of Sergeant. In 1978, he began work at Maxwell-Gunter Air Force Base where he served as a COL Trainer, and heavy equipment operator. Mr. Benson took great pride in his work ethic as he trained hundreds of students for COL licensure with a 100% rate of success.

Mr. Benson received many awards for outstanding service and was known for his spirit of discipline, commitment, and dedication to whatever endeavor he pursued. He had the opportunity to develop some long lasting relationships with many friends, co-workers, and acquaintances. He will be greatly missed.
