His Life

Mr. Henry Lewis Cofield was born to the late Mrs. Lizzie Mae Fears and the late John Lee Bonner in Chambers County, Alabama. He passed away on Saturday, June 30, 2012 at Lanier Health Services in Valley, Alabama.

He attended the old St. John Baptist Church School on State Line Road in Lanett whenever he got the chance. He joined the U.S. Marines and served in World War II. After the military, he moved to Cleveland, Ohio where he worked as a sub-contractor for handling asphalt. He retired from this company.

He joined the St. John Baptist Church at an early age under Rev. Clanton Williams. He moved to Cleveland and after re-locating back home, he united back with St. John under the pastorage of Rev. Walter L. Darden. He loved attending Sunday School and studying God's Word. He attended Sunday School and Church Services every Sunday until his health failed him.

He was united in Holy Matrimony to Mrs. Mary J. Reed.

He was preceded in death by many siblings, aunts and uncles and a grandmother who reared him, Mrs. Julia Ann Johnson Cofield.

He leaves to cherish his memories: two sisters, Julia (Cecil) Rushton, Doris (Robert) Robinson, both of Buffalo, NY; three brothers, Bennie (Nell) Fears, Anniston, AL; Norman Fears, Buffalo, NY, Sammy J. Fears, Anniston, AL; an aunt, Geneva B. Carter, Lanett, AL; devoted caretakers: niece, Eddie Mae (George) Williams, cousins, Deborah Johnson and Vivian Heard, West Point, GA, and a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
